I was part of massive lay offs a year and a half ago from a large national company after more than 18 years of employment as a 50-something IT manager. After reviving from the shock of losing a job at my age and several months of applying to local jobs with little to no response, I went to the Tampa, Florida Bernard Haldane office after I read a savvy ad, which portrayed them as executive headhunters. Ultimately, to say the least, I was not at all happy with the "service" provided and realized I essentially threw that money away. Recently, however, I was directed to this site and was appalled to see all the reports here. One, entered on 6/27/2003, is virtually identical to my situation right down to the names, the exact same fee, and other similar circumstances. As a result, I consulted a lawyer and decided to pursue the same course as that individual.

Bottom line is you pay for the "service" but you do all the work. The only thing you will get is a resume a high school kid could write and "seminars" and papers to fill out that would make Enron execs look like angels. They flattered me and told me their "hidden" network of companies hiring my kind of person would be a piece of cake and I'd be interviewing in a month or two and should be employed shortly thereafter. RIP-OFF! Not one contact, not one interview generated by their "advice". As a matter of fact, identical to the report posted on 6/27/2003, I saw a job posted for a local company and asked my "advisor" if he had any contacts at that company. He looked at me like I had two heads and muttered "no", saying I was suppose to generate the contacts. That, to me, was the defining moment.

Later, I was given a couple email addresses to contact but, again like the report on 6/27/2003, I got no response at all. They capture you with vague promises of long lists of all the major contacts, and then later "advise" you how to create that list yourself. So, essentially, you pay for things you already know BUT, up front, you are not aware this is the "service" for which you are paying. Stated exactly that way, "what you get for your money is advice on things you already know", I doubt anyone would fork over the money.

I have retained a lawyer and sent them a letter requesting refund. Their predictable response, a diatribe of denial, included a reference to a position I "accepted". I retain all emails sent or received and can easily show that I explained to my "advisor" this was not an acceptance at all but rather a request to cancel upcoming appointments with Haldane to spend time looking into something for which I was being recruited. My "advisor" never seemed to accept this concept and instead, I was strongly "coached" to "go for it". Interestingly, the company recruiting me, who shall remain nameless here, is today featured on this sites home page under "Top Rip-off Reports". Fascinating that one rip-off company would strongly recommend a "client" to another major rip-off company.

I intend to file a lawsuit and let them lie to a judge. I plan to go to a local NBC station and the Tampa Tribune. The name of the sales person who convinced me to sign on the dotted line, identical to the report on 6/27/2003, is Carol Grim. If you have $5,000 to throw in the garbage, then by all means, sign up with Bernard Haldane Associates! The fact that they are white collar SCAM ARTISTS milking 50 something people in the worst job market since, reportedly, WWII, is pathetic and disgusting. How can they exist in our country after September 11th when we are supposed to be "a country united"? As a decorated Vietnam vet, I find this appalling.

Tell your laid off friends, tell your relatives, tell the stranger sitting next to you at happy hour - Bernard Haldane might as well steal $5,000 from you with a gun to your head in a dark alley in Ybor City.
