My wife and I attended a free steak dinner by energy blue eco tech. This company targets the elderly and sends out post cards offering free dinners in small towns across the country to sell home efficiency products and services. The company claims it will save you 40% on your electric bill by installing NASA products in your home. Energyblue sells homeowners an attic installation called koolblanket, solar fans called solarkool, a device that supposedly improves your allergies called ecoprobiotic system and some oil you put in your air conditioning called koolblue. In the dinner they do a demonstration of the kool blanket. This is what they claim is a NASA product, but it is just a cheap radiant barrier aluminum foil insulated with regular Pink Panther that has nothing to do with NASA. You can buy a radiant barrier aluminum foil at your local home improvement store 25 cents per sq ft. The trick is that they are using the radiant heat from a light bulb to heat up the thermometers at the bottom of the box. In our attics we have convectional heat transfer not radiant heat transfer like in the demonstration. You can buy solar kool / solar fans for around $250 with a lifetime warranty at your local home improvement store. The eco probiotic system and kool blue are just snake oil, and do not do anything that is why they don't demonstrate them at the dinner. I presume they buy all of these cheap products in bulk, but put a $10,000 plus price tag with instillation. There is another rip off report where it states that they don't pay their subcontractors properly, so it appears the company is not paying much to the hard working installers. You can buy the products and get them installed by your local home improvement store for way less than one third the energyblue ecotech price.

At the end of the dinner they passed out these cards and force you to put down a time when they can come by your house to do a free estimate and home inspection. This is where the sales pressure starts. We felt the force and we to put down a time as these vultures circled us. The next day the energyblue ecotech salesman came to our house. He looked around the house and filled out an estimate sheet. The cost for these products was over $14,000. We said we were not interested and asked him to leave. The salesman would not leave and started making phone calls to get us a better price. This is where the browbeating began. He spent the next 15 minutes intimidating is into buying these products. He lowered the price and the monthly payments to lure us in, but the interest rate was so high that we would have to make payments for the next 20 years.

Beware of these slick traveling salesman coming to your town. They already have been reported to rip off report and the BBB. I don't know why any reputable restaurant would allow these thieves to offer a free dinner and swindle their customers at their establishments. This company needs to be reported to the Federal Trade Commission - Bureau of Consumer Protection. The elderly need to be protected from this scam and fraud and not taken advantage of anymore. If you get their free steak dinner postcard in the mail, just throw it out. If you have already been scammed by this company and are not saving 40% on your electric bill, then you need to contact the BBB, FTC and your local police.
