I got ripped off badly by this car rental sales agent in the edmonton downtown jasper branch...   I needed a car for the day for job searching and attending an interview..

I chose an economical car the tiny suzuki hatchback with tiny tires and great on fuel since i knew i'd be driving most of the day with it.

This small car cost me $96.66 in total with a $15.84 dollar waiver to make it seem like he was doing me a favor.

shoulda been a 40 dollar rental... i am put off never renting from this company again..

It was my first time renting a car ever.

the car was only 18 dollars a day to rent so the total should have been around 40 dollars with the personal insurance.

i found this out AFTER when my buddy looked at my bill and gave me heck for getting such a lousy car for such an outrageous price... he rented from the same company for 41 dollars different branch a brand new Nissal Altima 2.5L and here I am stuck with a 90 dollar suzuki with no power and traction..

he mislead me and lied to me and told me i needed to get additional insurance coverage and said the personal insurance added on was just other fees from the company.

So he sold me the daily car rental and the insurance AND the damage waiver for 19.99 EXTRA on top of the care rate and insurance rate without telling me.. telling me IT was the insurance making me believe it.

so the total came to 69.04 and i thought that was a little much and he just said it was the cost of the rental companys fees plus car rate and insurace rate.. so i obliged and paid on my credit card...    i asked him what time the car was due back he said next day around this time didn't mention it HAD TO BE 24 HOURS i said anytime around this time?? he said yea it it's a 1 or 2 hours within the time you took out the car it would be okay.

so i came dropped the carback the next morning and he charged me 15.84 for each hour i was late in returning the car... which was 2 hours so total bill was $96.66

i said that's not right you said when i rented the car out yesterday there wasn't a specific time frame i had to return it you just vaguely said "around this time 1 or 2 hours is okay" and he THEN said that's why i deducted 1 hour charged you for only 15.84 bringing total to 86.48 thinking he was doing me a favor.

The practises of this company employees aren't right they cheat and scam people... i also left the car with a FULL FUEL tank and when i rented it out it had 5/8 fuel and he DIDN"T reimburse me for the extra fuel i put in or give me credit for it.

RipOff?

While Enterprise has it's fair share of complaints, this sounds more like a case of a person who doesn't know what they were doing rather than a RipOff.

First it appears your "base" rental was $18/day.  If you had actually returned it within 24 hours and didn't buy any extra insurance you would have paid around $20-$25 depending on the taxes and fees that are ALWAYS going to be extra.

But you didn't just stop with the base rental.  You opted to purchase additional insurance for to bring it up to $40.  You were then "talked into" upgrading your insurance even more.  The problem with that is that they can try to convince you all you want, but you MUST agree to it on the form, and unless the forms for them in Canada are different than the US you have to actually initial that you agree to each type off insurance.  Now you can try to claim that you were forced to get the additional insurance, but you are probably on shaky ground.

As for the time to return.  Yes most companies give you some leeway, but it doesn't change the fact that it is still DUE back 24 hours later.  The guy said within 1-2 hours and you seemed to push that as far as you could by bringing it back 2 Hours(or perhaps even more) past the due time.

One final thing on the gas.  You rented the car with 5/8 gas and were only obligated to return it 5/8th full.  Unfortunately NO car rental is going to reimburse you for putting more gas than you had to.  Why?  Because they don't make any money off of this.  The only thing that happens is that the next person who rents it will rent it with a full tank and they will be obligated to return it full.

So hopefully the next time you rent a car you will take this as a learning experience.
