i brought a 2011 dodge RAM, to enterprise and the guy took the keys and told me he will be right back to check the car to make sure everything is ok, and so i waited inside, and when he returned, he told me that everything looked fine. so he wrote me my receipt of what i had to pay and then i left, next thing you know, 1-2 weeks later i receive a letter from DAMAGE RECOVERY UNIT, saying that there were damages to the car.
then i called DRU, and told them my side of the story, and they told me they will do investigation and so like a month later they send me letters saying that i am held responsible for damages because prior 3 months there were no damages and that the guy who i gave the keys to stated that he had pointed out the damages to me while i was present there when it never happened.
before i called the DRU to file my side of the claim, i called the local enterprise that i rented car from and informed them about whats going on, one of the representatvies lied to me saying i dropped off car overnight when i have reciept of when i dropped car off in the morning. the guy never pointed any damages to me and went ahead and got the car fix then i receive letters from them saying im responsible. such liars!!!!

Standard Practice at Enterprise

I have been renting from Enterprise for over 10 yrs and have had them pull the same stunt. It got to the point where I directed people travelling for my company not to use Enterprise. Now when I do use them, I throughly inspect the car and mark every scratch. The extra 15 min is well worth the effort. Then I talke pictures of it. On return, I take another set of pictures and make sure I get the name of the person checking in the car. After starting to do this, I have had only one attempt to ding me for "damages". I wrote them, saying I had pictures and would take legal action against them and copied my insurance company.
I got a letter of apology.

Companies are notorious for having their lackeys post here in order to make themselves look good.

Am I missing an important issue?

Maybe its just me lacking a basic concept here, but once the car is returned and has been cleared in the inspection by a representative of the company, AND the paperwork returned does not indicate damage, how can a company come back on the driver and claim any damages.
The car was out of your possession and could have been damaged by any number of other reasons, including being rented by another driver or damaged by an employee returning the car to the back. You have the rental document that does not indicate any damage. They cannot, after releasing you, come back and then claim damage.
Also, as I have seen in other reports dealing with Enterprise, they point out minor scratches or dents not previously reported, then claim repairs and out of service charges, yet no one has demanded proof the repairs were actually done, nor that the car was subsequently rented.
People have appealed the damages through Enterprise DRU, who has denied the appeal. In essence that is relying on the DRU, owned and employed by Enterprise to make an assessment contrary to the best interest of Enterprise. That is like having the fox guard the henhouse.
Where is the independent adjustor? Isn't that an arbitrator who should handle the complaint? Binding arbitration is in almost every contract nowadays.
I have noticed a great many complaints on this site against Enterprise, moreso than any other rental car company. Has they been a change in management that may be causing these to happen? I routinely use Enterprise, but after reading all the complaint in such a short period of time (sometimes 5 in a day), I have to wonder about the policies now being used by Enterprise. People have right to expect fair business practices, not an abusive customer relation (them vs. us) policy. It makes me wonder if I want to use their services again.
Finally, is this a way Enterprise is trying to force customers to purchase overprice insurance protection as a means of raisng fees and profitability? If so, it is a very poor business decision, IMO.

no incident happened when in my possession

hello. sorry i wasn't clear, i didn't want to write too much. but yeah when i had the car in my possession,
i never had an accident with it or felt like i bumpd into something. i brought it back perfect, and i look around the car before i brought it to enterprise, and there the ones telling me that i damaged the car. and actually just yesterday after talking with the DRU guy who is taking car of my case, says that when they did investigation, they said that the manager who i returned the keys to who dealt with me said that he pointed out the damage area when i was present at the enterprise shop, when i NEVER even when outside with him to see the car. i was sitting inside the enterprise shop when he told me that he will be back to make sure everything is fine, i told him ok no problem, and then when he came back he said everything is good and i paid him my fees, and then i left and went outside and my dad was waiting there for me so we can go home, and i went straight home, he never told me anything about damages, and that there investigation that the specialist did? that pathetic, that they believe the manager and not me.

"told them my side of the story" Is there more to the story then what you've written here? Was there an incident with the car?
