I drove "over-the-road" for this company for two months during 2008;before quitting. During that same 2 months,I spent over 2 weeks "babysitting" their piece-of-junk truck while it was being repaired "on the road". After being hired;I was assigned truck#8524. Upon initially entering the truck,my senses were assaulted by an overpowering odor of CAT URINE! Inside the sleeper berth hung a bottle(of some sort of cleaner)called "Urine B Gone"!!!It was immediately obvious that the last inhabitant of this vehicle was a female(and that she had carried a cat in the vehicle);from the sight of the clawed interior, the reeking odor of cat urine soaked into the carpets, and discarded Tampons! It was also obvious that the truck had been sitting idle for some time, since all four batteries were drained and corroded. I immediately reported these problems,AND WAS ASSURED that I would not be held liable! Within 3 weeks of hire;the truck brokedown in Houston,TX.,after encountering MULTIPLE AIR LEAKS AND JEOPARDIZING THE TRUCK'S BREAK SYSTEM! I SPENT 8 DAYS IN HOUSTON,TX. WHILE FREIGHTLINER OF HOUSTON REPAIRED THESE PROBLEMS! Equity Transportation DIDN'T reimburse me for the $$$ I spent on a motel during this time! Also,Equity(DID NOT stand behind their own policy)since Equity DID NOT pay me the $100-a-day "Breakdown Pay";as I was promised. Later,I spent nearly a week in an Independence,OH. motel room, while this same truck was being repaired for additional air leaks(this time due to a faulty air-compressor). AGAIN,Equity Transportation DIDN'T reimburse me for $$$ spent on a motel,OR pay me "Breakdown Pay" as promised. Other problems included:dangerous exhaust leaks into the vehicle, and breakdown(during a rainstorm) due to faulty wipers!....After finishing a load assignment, returning their equipment, and submitting ALL paperwork;I quit this company because BRAD POSS(Equity Transportation's Chief Financial Officer/Operations Manager) REPEATEDLY LIED TO ME!!!(by assuring me that I would get paid $$$ owed to me) ...EQUITY TRANSPORTATION OF WALKER,MI. IS MANAGED BY LIARS,THIEVES,AND CROOKS!!! EQUITY ALSO KEPT MY LAST PAYCHECK!!! ....DO NOT WORK FOR THESE CROOKS!!!

Tall Tale teller?

Ok, let's go down your list now...

1.  $12 for parking?  If you didn't have the money, it's called pay advance.  Your Com Data card has $100/week available for pay advances.  And I know that TA can run your ComData card for it, I have done it myself there.  Also, how long have you been driving?  You really think you need permission to drive 2 miles to a truck stop after a delivery?  That's your fault for thinking that.  I can see if you have to go 30-40 miles to get to the nearest truckstop, but 2 miles? Come on, use  your head, really.

2.  East Coast backhauls back when you were there were hard to come by, there were times I could sit a day or two waiting for a backhaul out of Baltimore/DC area, which has since been remedied with a new account out there.

3.  Exhaust leak?  Ever hear of a pre trip?  A thorough pre-trip would have caught that problem right off the bat.

4.  No AC/Heat?  I don't know if you drove a Columbia or Classic, but all the Classics are equipped with Nightstar APU's, maybe you just didn't know how to use it.

5.  AROUND Christmas you asked for Christmas off.  I don't know how much advance notice you gave them, but most of the drivers there put in for it a year in advance to make sure they get it, if you were know and low man on the tote, I can see why you might have problems getting it off.  And even if they did send you a load to run out on the 23rd, what's the problem?  It's 1 day out to Hazleton, 1 day back.  So you still get home Xmas Eve night and are home for Christmas.  Problem solved there.

6.  20 loads a month to Hazleton?  Really?  Sure you don't wanna rethink that number?  Since Hazleton loads only come out of Grand Rapids or Grand Prairie, TX or Athens, AL, even if you were dedicated between GR and Hazleton which I'm sure you weren't since Equity doesn't run dedicated, that would mean 20 runs a month could be done in the least amount of days, 40 days.  Last I checked, there weren't 40 days in a month.  So if you fudged that figure, what else did you fudge in your report, huh?

There's a flipside to every story

It's the same with every company, you have some bad experiences and good experiences.  I've been a driver with Equity for going on almost 2 years now, and I have never experienced the problems that you and the couple other ex employees have experienced.

Let's go down the list here...
1.  2 weeks of repairs in 2 months...I'm not sure what sort of repairs you were having done, but when you first got assigned your truck, you should have done a THOROUGH inspection, wrote up all problems, and waited until the problems were fixed until you took the truck out of the yard.  And if that took too long, then should have had them assign you another truck.  Turnover is fairly consistent there, so there were probably a couple other empty trucks available.  So you might have to wait an extra half day or so to get the things wrong with it fixed. So what?  Saves you from breakdowns on the road like you xperienced.  And to that point, pre-trips every day usually will catch most minor problems.

2.  I don't know what the situation with the breakdown pay is.  For hotel reimbursement, you would have had to get approval prior to your hotel stay to get reimbursed for that.

3.  As far as your last paycheck, of you were there for less than 6 months, as stated in paperwork you signed during orientation, the cost of the drug testing and physical would come out of your last check, so depending on the miles you ran, you might not get one.

It all boils down to he said/they said.  I don't know the situation nor do I really care.  I just Googled Equity Transportation looking for stock quotes, and this link came up, so thought I might sign up and respond. There are slow weeks and good weeks, and like every other trucking company in America, things don't always run smooth.  Out of 250+ drivers, I only see complaints from 3 on this site, and 1 on another. So 4 registered complaints out of probably 1000+ depending on turnover.  Not a bad record really.  And who knows what the situation really is with these complaints?

I got 1600 miles in 9 days

AUTHOR: Driver - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, April 26, 2009

First off Brad you say consider the source, that you can email a copy of his DAC??? Your company hired him, what does that say about Equity??? In that one statement you show just screwed up Equity is.. I'm not sure but if you email personal information like that, I do believe that there are privacy issues... But what do I know I'm just a dumb truck driver...

The following is my experience with Equity Inc:

This company is a joke... They're turnover rate must be unbelievable... I was supposed to start for them on a Wednesday, I got to the terminal at 11:00am with another new driver, we didn't leave the yard until 21:30.. They were supposed to be cleaning and getting them road ready.... Yeah right.... I finally started my load on Wednesday night it was a load less then 600 miles from Kentwood, MI to Laurel MD.. I left Wednesday night after 21:30 and couldn't deliver the load until Monday morning... You do the math... I got unloaded Monday morning and they told me to sit there until they got me another load... So here I sit at a secured building that I could not gain access to, to use the restroom or breakroom.. No big deal right? We drivers have to deal with that quite a bit... Well, I finally talked my dispatcher into letting me drive the truck 2 miles to the T/A at exit 41A Jessop.. Well you know as well as I that if you don't buy fuel, or purchase at least 20 dollars worth of product in the store, you have to pay a 12 dollar parking fee... Well since I wouldn't see my first paycheck for 3 weeks, money was kinda short so I asked dispatch if they were going to pickup the 12 dollar parking charge since they couldn't find me a load... The answer was NO... I asked why I had to pay to park THEIR truck when THEY couldn't find me a load... Their answer? "That's our policy"... Now lets go back, I had 5 days to to drive less then 600 miles, why wasn't there a backhaul found within these five days? So here I sit, sun blairing into the windshield making the truck hot... So I turn on the A/C...lol... There is no A/C... In the process I'm loosing my voice and I don't know why, I feel fine but can't talk... Well I finally figured it out the next morning... You see I had to idle the truck for heat because it actually got cold thru the night... Well when I woke up, imagin my supprise when there was a smoky haze in the front cab of the truck... Yup, there was a really bad exahust leak... This is why I lost my voice.. So I finally get another load the next day 24 hours and 6 minutes later... Which means I don't get any layover pay, because the way they pay layover is to give you ten dollars an hour for up to 100 dollars, AFTER 24 HOURS OF SITTING... So I should have made $1.17 for the six minutes over 24 hours I sat... Well the back haul is from Middle River MD to Ann Arbor MI, I think the mileage they pay for was around 658... Now mind you, we are not to use the PA Pike or the OH Pike because they do not pay for them... So you have to go all the way across I-70 to I-68 to I-79 back up to I-70 then run thru the woods of OH, all the while knowing they've forced me to go this way because I don't have the money to pay for the Pike out of my pocket, and they won't pay for the additional miles for not using the Pike... Well, I deliver to Ann Arbor, MI Wednesday morning... Sit all day and finally get a load From around Romulus, MI back to Kentwood, MI... I delivered in Kentwood, Thursday morning and deadheaded to the Terminal in Walker, MI... I wrote the truck up for the exhaust leak and no A/C... I sat with the truck all day Thursday waiting for them to fix it... I finally borrowed money from a family member to get a motel room for Friday because the truck still wasn't fixed... Guess what.... It wasn't fixed Saturday either... So here I sit with a truck that I've run 1400 miles in 9 days... The shop was too busy working on the trucks of drivers that were home for the weekend instead of fixing the truck of a driver that was trying to get back on the road to make some money... Well enough was enough.... Saturday afternoon I packed my stuff up in the truck, transferred it to my car and quit.... All I wanted to do was run and make some money... But I shouldn't have to beg for a load or to get my truck fixed.... If you are thinking about going to Equity, please think it thru.... I know it's tuff in Michigan right now, but you will make way more money on unemployment then you will with them... After 11 days with them I actually spent more money on the road sitting and paying for motels then I did running miles.... Again, re-think driving for this company.....

My side of my expirence with Equity Transportation Company Inc.

AUTHOR: Lilbubba - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, January 30, 2009

From your first point William, I agree with what you went through with your assigned truck. I did not expirence any animal odars, however, I did end up with a truck that had a leaking turbo (of course just like any other low life company would say, drive it 'til it goes). Sorry, I refused and they issued me another truck the same day (5 hours later). This one wasn't any better... It was pretty much a garbage truck. Full of bread, fries, and other food particals. I asked them to clean it, all I got for an answer was, when you return for your time off, put in a report to the shop to get it cleaned. Sorry, but I wasn't going to wait that long and drive it like that. I ended up cleaning it myself, with cleaning products paid for out of my own pocket.

I took a load that was already late prior to being dispatched on it. I explained to my dispatcher that I can get it sooner if I can get an approval to run the turnpike. I got the approval and was told to turn the toll reciepts directly into my dispatcher. I did that just as told. A month later, I still didn't get paid for those tolls I was told I would get paid back for. Around christmas time, I explained that I needed to be home for christmas and everything was agreed upon. On the 23rd they call and ask me to take a load to of couse to Hazelton PA. (I took probably 20 loads there a month). I explained to them that it was agreed on through my dispatcher that I was going to be home for christmas and I would go out anytime afterwards. After christmas, I get a call from another dispatcher saying that my dispatcher is off for a week and that I had this other dispatcher. Ok whatever, so mine is off for a week. They say they have a load for Sunday going to Atlanta GA. I said that is fine. So come Sunday morning this rude guy calls me at 11:00AM asking me why my truck is still sitting at the lot in Walker. I explained to him that I was told that the load I have is for Sunday and is going to Atlanta GA and the dispatcher sent the information to the qualcom in the truck. He then got really angry and said it was to be delivered Sunday by 1800 hours. I told him that i was not told that, and I could be there in 2 hours considering the distance I lived away from the lot. He didn't like that and told me to not worry about it and he would find someone else to cover the load. He told me to call night dispatch starting at 7:30PM Sunday night. Well for anyone who has or is working for Equity knows Sunday dispatch doesn't start until 8:00PM!! So I did what this guy told me to do (who once never said who he was and I couldnt even get a breath in to ask him before he hung up on me). I couldn't get night dispatch to answer the phone and the message on dispatches phone said to use your satillite as your primary source of communication. Well, sorry if you want me to do that, let me bring the low income housing home and I would be more then happy to. I called evey half hour to an hour until 11:54PM (Per my printed call log for proof) Sunday, when I got pissed off and decided to go to bed as it wasn't worth waiting up that long to get a load. I called Monday morning (dispatch) and they stated they would give me a call when they had a load planned for me. I never got a call, and then Wednesday they call and tell me they have not got a load for me and will work on it as quick as possible. Come friday, still nothing. When I expected to get a pay check (Had direct deposit), nothing in the bank from Equity. When my mail was delivered Friday, I received my earnings statement to show that I was terminated with no reason. I was also charged $100 truck cleaning, $150 for drug and DOT physical. I stopped in to the Walker terminal to get my belongings to find out they are no where to be found. They can not find them. I to this day, still do not have my belongings.

I am sure that Brad, who will know who I am, will respond to this... If you do, find my stuff! I did not quit, and had no intentions on quitting. I feel I am still owed my paycheck that is still being held. Either find my equipment that was left in the truck that you guys cleaned out, or give me my last check to pay for my stuff... I do not know what kind of legal action I can take, but I am seeking it!

As for you William, I know what you are going through, I was there, and am currently still there (until I get all my stuff back). I had another family member who worked for them, and it wasn't a pretty ride either! Good luck to you! Keep all 18 on the pavement!

I FIRMLY believe that I am NOT the only former employee to have been intimidated, defrauded, or THREATENED by Brad Poss. I have spoken personally, and recently with other former employees, who have had similar experiences (as my own) with Brad Poss, and Equity Transportation. Rip Off Report is a VERY VALUABLE consumer tool. I URGE ANY FORMER EMPLOYEES WHO HAVE HAD A NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE WITH EITHER BRAD POSS OR EQUITY TRANSPORTATION COMPANY,INC. TO POST THEIR STORIES HERE.

Please review Mr. Arnolds DAC report.

It has multiple "problems" with multiple companies.

Just consider the source of the information and read Mr. Arnolds employment history. If you do not have access to DAC please email me at bposs@equityinc.com and I will email you a copy. Upon review of this document you will understand that the rantings of this individual are significantly flawed.

BRAD POSS Chief Financial Officer/OPERATIONS MANAGER EQUITY TRANSPORTATION CO., INC./WALKER,MI.

To date, I have NOT been paid ALL monies owed to me by Equity Transportation Co., Inc..Since I submitted my original report, I have received MANY calls from Brad Poss. Brad Poss STILL REFUSES to pay me ALL monies owed to me by his company. INSTEAD, BRAD POSS THREATENED TO "BLACKLIST" ME IF I DID NOT REMOVE MY ORIGINAL REPORT. Brad Poss claimed that the report I have submitted makes his company, "look bad". What Brad Poss doesn't realize is that stealing hard-earned money from his employees is what makes his company "look bad". I asked Brad Poss how he got to such a position within Equity Transportation Co., Inc., and he responded by saying, "AT LEAST I'M NOT A F#CKING TRUCK DRIVER!" Poss's response is typical when you consider the fact that Equity Transportation doesn't respect their employees, or pay their employees ALL wages they have earned!
