I sent my motorcycle cylinder in to this company to have the cylinder ported, the head machined, and a new piston fitted to the bore. as with all things mechanical, tight tolerances are exceedingly important. When I received my cylinder back, I noticed the piston was not fitted correctly. it was very loose in the bore. The piston manufacture states a clearance of .0030 of an inch, and the cylinder manufacture states no more than .0040 of an inch. I phoned and asked questions, the owner (Eric) told me that it was set at .0055 at the tightest point, and that is how it should be to prevent it from seizing (sticking to the cylinder when it gets very hot and expands). Unfortunately when a piston has too much clearance in a cylinder, it slams against the walls of the cylinder, creating stress cracks, and eventually shattering the piston skirt, or the whole piston. When I showed other people who are experts in this area the cylinder and piston, they said it was far over clearance, like one that had been used for a long time and needed to be replaced.

Because I am new to 2 stroke motorcycles, I trusted Eric Gorr at Forward Motion Racing, and against my better judgement I installed the piston and cylinder when I could just feel by moving it around in the cylinder bore the piston was very sloppy and had too much clearance. Not suprisingly the piston shattered, unfortunately the pieces wedged into crytical lower motor parts like the crankshaft, and cause catastrophic damage to the cylinder also. When I called and explained what happened to Eric, I just got a response of obscenities and hung up on. I called him about this on 2/26/06, 8 months after I had the work done on 5/9/05 and he told me I rode the motorcycle for a year and it was my fault. However, I only rode the motorcycle for a short time before this happened. I did not dissasemble it to find out the damage sonner because I was very busy this year and I did not have time to mess with trying to fix my toy. I do however have records of posting on a local internet forum that this happend very soon after the work was done, which proves that: NO I DID NOT CAUSE THE DAMAGE BY RIDING IT FOR A YEAR. A year has not even passed since the work was done. These posts and the date they were maid can be viewed on the forum for motorcycles like mine at this

Also I have pictures of the cylinder right after the work was done, showing how loose the piston was fit.

Eric told me it was all my fault, That I do not know anything about motorcyles, and that I should contact an attorney if I want my money back. ironicly His book Motocross and offroad handbook describes this sort of catastrophic piston failure due to excessive clearance on page 110 and 112, with pictures that look exactly like what my new piston looked like after he worked on my cylinder. This description of damage due to over clearance can also be viewed on Eric's own website at this link:http://www.ericgorr.com/services/pistondiaguide.html (see picture and description #6).

I recognise that Eric Gorr is a world class expert in the area of motorcycles and 2 stroke engine mechanics, but anyone can make a mistake. He claims I rode the motorcycle for a year and this happened due to use, However, I did not get to ride the motorcycle very long at all before this damage happened. He claims I did not set up the motorcycle correctly, however the motorcycle was set up like It came from the shop I bought it from where it worked perfectly until I had the work done by Eric Gorr. I will accept that I am not an expert, and that I may have not jetted the carb perfectly, (although the shop I bought the bike from did the jetting) But I will not accept that simple setup stuff I may have not done perfectly could result in this huge damage. I am not asking for Eric to pay for my motorcycle, I just want a refund for the work HE DID! The whole bottom portion of the motor is ruined because of this, and really he should pay for that to, but I just want a refund, that is all.

My family does keep an attorney on retainer, but the $260 refund amount wouldn't buy his lunch to explain this stupid situation. I will however make a point to tell as many people as is convienient for me exactly what happened in a fashion just like this RIP OFF REPORT. I hope that people read this and
realize that yes, Eric Gorr is an excellent and gifted mechanic, but you better check all the work any mechanic does, because no person does everything perfect every time, and often the better they are the more likely it is they are to arrogant to admit they made a mistake.
