Etour and Travel is a Ripoff

During the year of 2001, etour sold a vacation package to my minor son over the telephone. He thought he was buying his family a vacation. Documents later received in the mail indicated it was a time share and more monies would be needed to get to Florida and get the vacation package he thought he had purchased. Not knowing what to do, he kept quiet and did not inform his parents what he got himself into, until a second letter much later was received wanting his date of travel.

He findly informed his parents and showed them the documents. The cost was a lot more than $99 as he sent around $400-$500 for an upgraded package. His parents contacted the company who only offered to have them take his place and it had to be his mother and father for the time share presentation. Etour refused to return his money and under legal advise from an attorney in Iowa it was felt it would cost too much to fight the issue from such a long distance. They talked a teenage boy into purchasing a time share presentation that included very little of what was promised.

I'm writing this report because 6 years later the saleman wanted to make it right and stated for only $99 they would reinstate the vacation package
he had purchased for any family member to use. I explained the entire situation to the saleman over the telephone and he have the gall to give me the web site to see the package we could have. Again, this is a time share and no mention of it ever came up. Everyone, BEWARE of ETOUR TRAVEL.

#6 Consumer Comment

Response to the comment that it was not the fault of E Tour that the minor purchased a package

AUTHOR: Fendercats - (Canada)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 30, 2009

It seems that it should be that fault of the company as it was the company that sold the minor the package without verifying his age. That's like saying a bar is not responsible for serving a minor because he said he was 21, so the bar acted in good faith and its not their problem.

Any decent company would refund the money. thats what makes a good customer service report. Like if a minor signs up for columbia house DVD (true story, btw), and they get all these promo dvd's for $0.01 or whatever the deal is. Then the parents get the bill or they eventually get the collection notices. All they have to do is call, say that the CH member is a minor and they wipe the charges. They even keep the dvd's.

it doesn't really matter how E Tour puts it. It IS that fault of the company and to not accept the responsibility further solidifies my feelings toward the whole operation. And to be fair, the sales reps are trained to be very sneaky and vague with their words, after having had an experience of my own with this company I can't get straight answers, I was being lied to as they said they were directly linked to the major credit card companies, I was charged money on a credit card that was maxed and thus was about $600 in the red with Visa who did the investigation for me and got a refund and they told me they e tour buys cc info from other companies and thats how they trick you into thinking you bought a vaca package from them as they have all this personal info for you, and sending a package that sometimes takes longer than 15 days to receive so you cant cancel, and quite rude to boot, etc), . Not a Scam, no, but legal criminals.

Before any package is sold to anyone we frist ask the customer if they are over the age of 25, because it is requied that you complete the presentaion. If the reponse is yes and you are interested in the vacation, then we secure the package for you, which you do have 1 year to use.

On another note, we do not sell vacation ownership property over the phone. You do have to come to Orlando to complete the presention before you are offered the vacation ownership property.

It is not our fault that the young man stated that he was 25 years old even after asking for his date of birth to be sure and then purchased the package without parental consent.
