Went through a rough divorce, moved in with mom and dad.. heard a specifically targeted radio advertisement about Events and Adventures, a club that is for singles that are divorced and looking to get back out there in the social scene.. blah blah.. very specifically punched all my emotional buttons.

Went and met with their team.  They said they have a rigorous screening process to ensure only 'top level' candidates were allowed into the club.  This was an hour and a half interview, that was really just designed to wear me down, and had nothing to do with screening me as a candidate.

They wanted to know about my divorce.. wanted to make sure I could commit, hadn't even been formerly divorced, was still unsettled at the time.  They reassured me that wasn't an issue and it sounded like i was ready (i wanted to believe this).

At the end of the exhausting meeting, which started at 8pm, I am offered an opportunity to join, I have been selected.  The sales team then puts a $2500 contract in front of me, ensuring me that I can make monthly payments, blah blah blah, no real explanation of why it is $2500, they told me not to worry about that, it was just the contract value for the sales team.

I hadn't really looked at other dating sites, and thought the $151/month price seemed high... but hey was excepted, let's give it a go.

Went to my first event, the leader of the event sat in the back, never even acknowledged me.  The people at the event were all much much older than me.  Most were very social awkward.  Everyone seemed confused, and no one understood except the very strange creepy regulars.  These 'adventurers' were just off.

I was immediately confused as to what the hell did i sign up for.  Went to a second event at a bar (was told these are much  better).  More of the same.. couldn't even stay for a drink.

Started to work things out with my ex, stopped going to meetings, really didn't think about much.. life was a whirlwind.  Then got a call from someone from Events and Adventures telling me they needed my new credit card.  Turns out, I had paid them $453 for attending 2 events, and now they wanted more money.

I apologized, explained the changes in my life, the girl told me none of that mattered, i signed a contract and owed them over $2000 if I wanted to cancel.

I explained the sales process to the girl at headquarters, and her response, "yes, the Dallas office has been known to do this, and it is not best practice".  She then looked me up online, and confirmed that I had no business being in their club, and she can't imagine why I was pressured.  She said she would talk to the CEO and figure it out.

I called several times, finally she told me the CEO Mark, didn't care, and I had to pay, or write a blog about how great their service is??????  I tried to get clarification, never got another response, and now a year later have a collection agent after me for over $2000, threatening to take me to court???

Why would they need to do this if they are a real company with a real service?  How is $453 for me attending 2 events even resonable?  That is on me, I should have stopped payment sooner.  But this is your classic scam bait and switch boiler room  operation.  And they are preying on people in a very emotionally unstable period.

They should be prosecuted with extreme prejudice on principle.

Hope this helps you steer clear of the Events and Adventures Scam.  i have seen other complaints where individuals moved to cities without their service, and they wouldn't refund.

I really don't think, Events and Adventures cares about these complaints, they are just trying to make a quick buck, with no real service or intent to build a real product.  Their website is a testiment to that fact.  Still over a year later, no update to it, and just 1996 technology driving the site.  terrible company.
