I ordered my credit report only to have my credit card company call the next day to tell me that Experian allowed 11 other accounts (all fraudulent) to be created, 4 of which were created using the same credit card info that I gave to order my report.  This is everyone's worst nightmare.  I ended up on a conference call with Experian and my credit card company and this is how we got to the bottom of this.

Shouldn't a red flag go off somewhere in this company if they see multiple requests being made to access the same account using the same credit card all in the same day?  These people should not be put in charge of our confidential information.  They ought not to monitor anything!  All this does is make the FICO system seem so bogus.

I repeat... Identity Theft Enablers

It was EXPERIAN, not my bank that finally admitted to there being 11 fraudulent accounts made, and frankly speaking when so many accounts of this nature are opened all in the same day you just cannot justify how this passes the sniff test.  There is so much damage that can be done to someone's report that we all know takes quite a while to finally rectify...After all, the credit bureaus themselves take a long time to respond to errors made in someone's report.  Yes, under these circumstances, if Experian cannot even try to hold the line against this sort of thievery, how are they proving that they deserve to be among the 3 credit reporting agencies?  Enough of this baseless attempt at defending them.

Red Flags were raised...

Red Flags were raised...by your bank.

Should Experian have raised some red flags?  Perhaps, but 4 under the same Credit Card number may not be out of the normal for them.  After all, you could have a family of 4(2 adults, and 2 adult children) who one parent uses the same credit card.  I'm not saying this is right or wrong, just that 4 may not be an odity.

By the way I am actually really curious as to how your bank knew that 11 accounts were created if only 4 of them were with the same credit card number you used?'

Now just a few other things.  There are probably no less than a few dozen different Credit Scoring Models.  Experian is NOT FICO, FICO stands for Fair Issac Corporation and they are independent of Experian.  When you get your Credit Score from Experian you are getting one based on the PLUS model.  They are all very similar but not exact.  Also be aware that even if you find a site that says they give you your FICO score, realize that there are many different versions based on exactly what is being scored.  So the "consumer" FICO score may not be the same score that someone like a car dealer or credit card company would see.

This is why the key to managing your credit is first make sure that your REPORT is correct.  Because if your report is incorrect, no matter score model is used it won't be right.  You also need to be checking ALL three of your credit reports.  That is Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion because you never know what credit report a creditor may use.  You are also entitled to 1 free credit report(not score) per year from each of the three.  However you must go to the site below.
