I do believe CIC Triple Advantage free credit report service is a rip-off.
On their site you can either get your free reports from Experian or you can get reports from all three credit reporting agencies, but you must PAY for them.
The problem is even if you don't sign up for the "Triple Advantage" (all three reports) they still charge you $12 per month every month ($144 per year) for the FREE report.
A search on the internet shows there have been a lot of complaints about this charge. One site says the only way to avoid the charge is to cancel the card they are charging you on. I'm not sure this will work since they have information on all your credit cards. They can just start charging another card. I under stand that even their published phone number is invalid.
Why would a good company operate under so many names?

A recent amendment to the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) requires each of the nationwide consumer reporting companies to provide you with a free copy of your credit report, at your request, once every 12 months. The FCRA promotes the accuracy and privacy of information in the files of the nation's consumer reporting companies. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, enforces the FCRA with respect to consumer reporting companies.
Why does this statement at this site link everyone to this same company?
"In recent months, consumers have asked the FTC for more details about their rights under the federal FCRA and the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions (FACT) Act, which established the free credit report program. " (http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/credit/freereports.htm)
According to the Federal Government a:
Free reports will be phased in during a nine-month period, rolling from the West Coast to the East beginning December 1, 2004. Beginning September 1, 2005, free reports will be accessible to all Americans, regardless of where they live.
Consumers in the Southern states Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas can order their free reports beginning June 1, 2005.
I am from Florida and I was to start getting my free reports as of June 1st, 2005. On June 7th they billed me $12 on my credit card.
I admit that the information I have received has been informative and I have sent in several disputes for old credit cards that should be shown as canceled and not active.
I can even see paying $12 every time I want a report, but not $12 every month weather I get a report or not.
TrueCredit.com (TransUnion) gives me a free notice by e-mail every week on the status of my credit.
Why do I need to pay Experian if I have had no change in my credit status or activity.
Hope the Government can make these people operate under one name and make it clear that the report is not free and by signing up for A report will incur a monthly charge for 12 months.

The website www.annualcreditreport.com is the correct site for getting your free annual credit report. It was made available to Floridians as of 6/1/05. The only ones who still can't get it until 9/1/05 are those on the eastern seaboard from NC north to Maine.
From this site, you will be taken to each of the sites for the big 3 CRAs (Experian, Equifax and TransUnion), as the main site is sponsored by these guys because of the FACT Act.
But, once you get there, you have to be VERY CAREFUL that what you click on is for the FREE report. Each CRA site has many options to choose from, such as a credit monitoring program, FICO score reports and so forth, that cost money or sign you up for some kind of memebership.
Someone else posted on this site that they were being charged $9.95 a month just for requesting their free credit report. They probably choose the wrong option and were singed up with CIC Credit Monitoring.
You can get the free reports from all 3 CRAs. I did it for myself and my wife the first day it was available. Just be cautious on what option you choose, and make sure you are getting the free report only. If you are asked for a credit card number and expiration date, or a bank routing and account number, SIGN OUT IMMEDIATELY! That information is NOT required to get the free report.

These scammers are the people that control our financial dealings! I get scammed by a company called consumerinfo.com and file a report with the BBB and see they have a huge amount of "aka's" and the refund they agree to send me is from Experian and the check is from an Experian checking account! How in the world can these people scam so many yet have so much power over our financial destiny? It's disgusting and unreal!

By law, the agencies are required to send you a FREE report once a year or something.
They even have a site just for the people that want free credit reports.
But, here's the problem.
The minute ANYTHING at all happens in the world, a scammer turns it into a way to cheat somebody out of their money.
So, the crooks took this free credit thing and used it as a great way to cheat people. So far, it seems to be working great.
Even Experian, the credit people, got in on this scam. Instead of giving you a free report, like they are supposed to, they turned it into a way to cheat you out of $144.
You kind of expect that out of crooks like that, don't you?
There is a way to get a real, free credit report. I don't know the name of the site because I never use credit. So, I never check anything.
But, there is a way to get a real, free credit report. It's just buried under all the scams. The real site is probably on page 1000 in google or something. People only use the places on the first or second page. So, they always get the scam sites, and not the real one.
If somebody knows the address for the real free report, post it here so that others don't get cheated like this guy did.

After filing this report and sending them an e-mail to cancel my account I had a BAD feeling.
I have a good credit rating (high 700s) and I am now wondering if that rating will know come down because I submitted a Rip-Off report.
After all the people we are reporting on are the same people who control our financial future. If you don't believe me, just try to get a loan it any one of the tree agencies gives you a report below 700.
I will be needing a good report in the near future and I hope I have not just crewed my self.
Sorry Experian. Please go ahead and bill me the $144 for the full year and forget I ever said anything bad about you.
