My gas light came on so I pulled into this gas station. I own a Elantra,it's very good on gas so with gas currently at $2.41 I get a little under half a tank for $10.00. I paid the gas attendant and turned on my car...the meter never moved! In fact my gas light was still on! The gas attendant CLAIMED it was 4 gallons in my car and printed me out a receipt from inside. I went to a nearby gas station up the road that had the same exact gas price and asked for another $10.00. The meter moved up to where it should have been when I left the first gas station! I asked the gas attendant could he print me out a receipt as well then I went back to Express Fuel to ask for my money back! I paid for 4 gallons of gas I didn't receive!! The gas attendant was extremely rude wouldn't even look at the gas meter or the receipt from the other gas station and refused to give me my money back!!! Their fuel pump was obviously broken and I feel robbed! Avoid this gas station they are a bunch of crooks!!!!

Robert And TYG wrong again as usual

AUTHOR: Bubba Lee - (Canada)

POSTED: Friday, June 19, 2015

1/3 of a tank on most cars will move the needle from red light empty to half (or almost)

The effect is known as shallow bottom 1/2.

As usual both trolls missed the points made (paraphrasing) I have done this many times before, I did this as usual and they didn't put gas in the car but charged me. I proved it buy doing the same thing down the block and got the "expected" amount of gas on the guage.

So as usual RObert and TYG defend the scam Schmuk.

Dumb Trolls, Brains are for nice people.

According to Hyundai, the Elantra has a 12.8 Gallon Tank.  At 2.419/gallon, $10 would get you about 4.13 gallons of gas or just under 1/3 of a tank...not "a little under a half".

Short of removing the gas from the tank and measuring how much was in there, your gauge is not a guaranteed accurate measurment of how much gas is actually in your tank.  Overtime(or even from the beginning) they can be off by a few gallons.  If your tank was that empty it is very possible that your gauge is such that it was still below the sensor level and didn't get picked up until you had more gas.

Now, if you had filled up your tank and it still didn't budge or you were able to get another full tank at another gas station..then you MAY have something.

If you still think you were ripped off, ever state has a government agency that tests the accuracy of the pumps(generally something like the agricultural or weights and measures).  You can file a complaint with them giving them the date/time/location/pump and situation.  They will then investigate.  If they find the pump was in error you may have claims, at the very least the gas station would be required to fix it.

By the way don't try and come here how I don't understand gas prices...I just paid $3.95/gallon and I can't remember the last time I saw sub-$3/gallon gas, let alone $2.41/gallon.

I did not pump my own gas...I live in NJ! I know my car and there was no gas being pumped into it at that pump at the gas station. YOU obviously DON'T know WHAT your talking about. I drive a school bus most of the day I barely drive my car you said all that to say what exactly? Still doesn't explain how my car is still missing those 4 gallons of gas they supposedly pumped into it. I work VERY hard for EVERY dollar and I can cause WHATEVER scene I wish to cause over MY HARD EARNED CASH! If it was YOU im sure YOU would have felt the same way. I will never go back to EXPRESS FUEL in Lawrenceville,NJ end of that:)

Or....

Or what ACTUALLY happened is that you were so low in gas that your float got stuck!! THEN when YOU went to another gas station YOU put in enough gas to cause the float to well float. Its VERY common to have the float in your tank get stuck to the bottom of the tank or to have some foreign material such as DIRT catch in between the float arm and the side of the float or in between the float arm and the fuel pump. ALL of which is MORE LIKELY then the pump not working. YOU pumped the gas so YOU would have felt the gas going through the hose. YOU would have heard the pump activate. All YOU did was show YOUR general automotive ignorance and make a scene and ACCUSE a INNOCENT PERSON!!!! Arent YOU so proud of your actions?? But people like yourself WILL NOT admit when THEY screw up so its kinda like pissing up a flag pole. YOU are just going to get piss in your face for your efforts.
