In April 2004, I went into Eye Glass World to see if I could get the lenses on my current frames replaced. I like the frames a lot but the coating on the lenses was wearing off. They offered a price of $125 for basic lenses which I though was a bit pricey since I was supplying the frames and had single vision correction lenses, so I decided to leave the shop and try elsewhere, but at the door I was called back by the salesman and the price was reduced to $75.

I thought that was a good deal and returned to take a seat. The salesman went to get me a receipt after placing my order and returned saying his manager says they could offer an even better deal. For $200 in total, I could get a second pair of glasses (frames and lenses) and a free eye exam. I thought this was better since I hadn't had an exam in a while. With his help, I picked out a frame had my eye exam and paid, then waited for the usual seven to ten days as they had to be ordered. I hadn't given them my old frames as they were my primary glasses but they were to order the lenses in and cut them to my frame size in-house.

After 10 days my new glasses still weren't ready, some delay in Cincinnati was the reason given but after another 7 days they arrived. The lenses looked so thick but I took them, wore them and drove home.

That evening, I had a massive headache and assumed it was usual after a prescription change but after the second day of continuos wear, I could neither wear the new glasses nor my old ones. I had a massive headache and a nosebleed and just had to keep my eyes shot and glasses free for a whole day to recover. I called Eye Glass World and told them to try and postponed making my other lenses as they'd make something uncomfortable if they were to make the same lenses again. They agreed, I gave them back the new ones and complained about the headaches.

They got one of their managers to take me to a corner to figure out what was wrong and his conclusion was that they had offset the PD on the glasses, i.e. the center of the glasses didn't match the center of my eye. He went ahead to reorder the glasses and ten days later I was back to pick them up, the lenses looked different, not as thick this time, I wore them home and just after an hour I had the same headache, it felt like somebody had their fingers in the corner of my eyes and was trying to angle them outwards. My eyes were also bloodshot in those inner corners. I called again and this time they suggested that the frame size I had picked was small for my face.

I went ahead and chose a new frame. They asked if I wanted any extras on the lenses, after explaining the various options I went for transitions, this option progressively darkens your lenses in sunlight and returns it clear in the shade; in the Savannah everyday sunshine I thought this was a cool feature. They asked for an extra $80 which I paid. The order was made including clear lenses for my old frames.

Two weeks later I was called to come pick them up, when I came they'd made a mistake and ordered polarized' lenses instead of transitions'. Polarized lenses stay permanently tinted, They apologized nicely and said I could have the lenses free of charge so I had to select a new frame for my transitions which they'd still needed to order. I chose a new frame which they charged a reasonable $69 for.

Needless to say the polarized glasses gave me a headache too. I got frustrated and went for another eye exam at Lenscrafters, for $45.50 the prescription was different from Eye Glass World's resident optician. When I showed them that at Eye Glass World they offered to give me a free exam with a different optician and this time the prescription matched Lenscrafters'. A few weeks later my transitions arrived with the new prescription, I tried them on and this time they fitted, they gave me a slight headache just over one eye but nothing like before, It is bearable.

To cut a long story short, yesterday August 16th I went to pick up my loving old frames which Eye Glass World have had for a while now with the new lenses and boy-oh-boy, the headache the invisible eye torture is back. I've had to take them off pretty quickly in the middle of the road. Besides my loving frames now has oversized screws with a nut to secure a loose screw at one end. They probably got worn from constant lens replacements. I have another appointment with them tomorrow and I'm too scared to go incase they ask for one more try, I probably couldn't ask for any money back either. On a more positive note though I noticed Lenscrafters carry the same brand of frames as my loving old ones, the Vogue' range so I'd be able to replace them soon.
