At her request, Richard (Rick) Wyatt and Family Adoption Services (FAS) worked with birth mother, Alex Newman, for several months prior to the birth of her son in an adoption plan. FAS supported Alex financially for several months and helped her with transportation to the methadone clinic. FAS arranged for and participated in a pre-birth consent hearing with a probate judge. Shortly before the birth Alex revoked her consent as she is allowed to do under Alabama Law. FAS later learned that Alex gave birth to her son in a local hospital. The child was taken into state custody (DHR) and placed in a foster home because of irregularities with Alex and the baby in the hospital. Later, Alex had to be admitted into another hospital. After a week there being under close care, Alex called FAS and again asked if FAS could place her baby for adoption. She then signed new consents and FAS coordinated the adoption with the State (DHR) and the adoption was finalized. At that time, Alex did not request any further support from FAS and none was given. Shortly therafter, Alex disappeared. Alex has not contacted FAS since placing the child for adoption and FAS sending her photos of the child in Dec. of 2011. FAS fulfilled all of its promises to Alex Newman.
