I started a subscription to Family Handyman magazine; good magazine, I enjoy reading it.  But then Family Handyman sent me an unordered book about storage shelves.  I returned the book, with an explanation that I had not order it, and a request to not send me unordered merchandise in the future.  Now I have received a dunning notice to pay for the never-ordered and returned book.  Yes, I am upset.  This is sleezeball marketing as far as I am concerned.  Beware of becoming a subscriber to Family Handyman magazine.

Another dunning letter

AUTHOR: dane1234 - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 14, 2012

I received another dunning letter from Reiman Publications/Family Handyman, for the un-ordered book they had sent last November (2011).  I had returned that book, with a note on the invoice that I had not ordered the book, did not want the book, and to not send me any more un-ordered merchandise.

I decided to call Reiman Publications.  They claimed that when I accepted their offer for a Family Handyman book in April 2011 (which I paid for promptly), that signed me up to automatically receive future books.  No way, I carefully read that offer to ensure that it was only a single-book order; if it had included any "subscription" or automatic future orders I would not have touched it with a 10-foot pole.  The CSR did acknowledge receiving the returned book, though.  When I asked why did they send the second dunning notice, I was told that the bill crossed in the mail with the book return.   Hmmm, it took ten weeks for Reiman to show that I had returned the book?  Guess so.

The CSR said he would cancel my subscription (which never existed to start with) and that my account showed a zero balance.  Well, we will see.

So, beware of buying anything from Reiman Publications.
