Family Promotions (a subsidiary? of Quantum Marketing) advertised an employment opportunity for the position of Event Coordinator. After forwarding my resume, I recieved an email asking me to call to schedule an interview.

I checked out the website, searched the BBB and ultimately decided to schedule the interview. When I called on Friday, they wanted me there on the following Tuesday. So, I purchased an airline ticket, hotel and rental car package and was on my way.

When I arrived for the interview, I learned that ALL positions are "entry level" only and lead only to "office manager" positions. Thus, there is no Event Coordinator. Furthermore, I learned that the "marketing" firm doesn't actually perform "marketing" functions, nor do they work with Disney, Vivitar or other large corporations as their website proclaims. They work only for non-profit organizations - handing out promotional materials on the street. Which is nice, but NOT marketing.

The icing on the cake: to even get an "entry level" job, one must remain in Orlando for several days to complete a second phase "training" process. They don't tell you this over the phone when you call to schedule your interview. Because I made my travel arrangements based on the single interview time they gave me, I was, of course, unable to remain in town- when the extremely unprofessional interviewer (who happens to be the office manager) learned this - she walked to her door and said, "Well. That doesn't give you a chance, because you have to be able to stay for the second phase in order to be considered."

Why wouldn't they tell someone that up front, so that appropriate travel arrangements could be made? This makes it impossible for anyone to even get a job - although, after meeting them, I can't imagine why anyone would want to work with them. They asked for my SSN when I arrived and I declined to give it - that's the only good part of the entire story!

I believe the non-profits who use their services should be made aware of their decietful practices and that Family Promotions should be required to reimburse me for the $600 I WASTED going for the "interview" for a position that doesn't exist with a company that doesn't do what they say they do.

I applied to this company a while back and did not accept a job. The First writer is pretty ignorant in the fact that they should have inquired a little bit more before buying a ticket. If a company immediately sets up an interview with out much screening then you should assume they have a high turn over, then you should inquire more, no matter how much they want to tell you.

The company is set up with a profit sharing model, which can be said is similar to what is known as a ponzi scheme, or a pyramid HOWEVER it is not. It is set up like any other commissioned based sales or "marketing" organization, and uses cheap products, primarily non-profit based because it is easy to set up non-profit events. The events include selling non-profit products at grocery stores or anywhere possible which is fine.

The negative aspects I will mention are the following:

1. Misconception of the job opportunity. They are not hiring event coordinators or entry level managers. They are hiring keosk sales people, which if you can be successful by all means go for it. If you have REAL sales experience this is not the place for you.

2.ole' JJJ himself likes to hire himself some beautiful ladies. Wonder if he has other intentions for them. (no doubt pauline is purdy)

3.As long as someone is above you, or they are expanding there is no room for advancement. Just like any other sale enviroment. (unfortunately in the mean time dont expect 6 figures with this one)

4. If they are expanding expect a good ole boy system promotion or you better be a pretty girl ;)

Overall I think the business model is ingenious and I applaud the success the young group has had.

and congrats to duping my time out of me for the interview-all my fault.

ONE SIDED STORY

Before, I even begin. I think that this is trivial, but find it necessary to back up our company since people happen to get bitter when things do not go their way and go as far as slander.

It is unbelievable that you would even take a situation that was not to your convenience and make it as if you are the victim.

First of all, we get hundreds of emails weekly requesting a position in our company, and with that we go as far as giving everyone an opportunity to come into a preliminary interview and sit with a Manager. I apologize, that the picture you had of flying in, landing the job, flying back home and getting to say "we are moving to Disney World and having a happy ending" did not go your way.

It is not the manager's or the recruiter's fault that you were so desperate for a job that you failed to inform the administrator that you do not even live in Orlando, were thinking of relocating, and lived out of state. If you did inform them of that, they would have asked you to call us when you moved into the area. If, you with-held that information, then it is your fault.

And as for your comments on marketing vs non profit, some of our clients are non profit and we include that information over the phone. So, that should be no surprise and if you are really sharp you would know that you can do marketing for non profit. But, who am I to educate? According to you, we are liars. Ha Good luck finding a job that would be to your convenience.

You may have some temporary loss of memory, because I recall you and the manager talking in the lobby after coming out from the preliminary interview. We went over the map that hangs in our lobby of the entire United States of America to see all of the affiliates we have and their locations.

I also, recall her giving you a contact and phone number to the Alabama office, so that you can continue the interview process close to home. I also recall you and her going over the phone list of the other offices and her calling several people to get you accommodated, due to lack of preparedness on your side.

I personally would not know why anyone would book a ticket to another state for only one day, to look for just one single position being offered. Only to have to turn around, without leaving any extra days to interview and find out more about the area in which you are so apt to live in. Obviously there was no thought to paper work or anything that may be required to attain a position. Especially, when you were the only one that knew that you lived hundreds of miles away.

We have over 25 employees and only 5 are from Orlando, the rest are from all over the country. Some have relocated from different states even, and all came down with ample time to get the job.

So congratulations to those who think outside the box and did let us know they were from out of town and they Got the Job!!
