I purchase three pairs of shoes during the BOGO half-off promotion and ended up returning two pair. The pair I kept was the half-off pair. When I returned the other two pairs, they rang up all three pair as returned (even though I had kept one pair and they were at home). Then the store rang up the non-returned pair as a new purchase at full price, because I was told I no longer had a qualifying pair for the half-off pair.

Since I had made the original purchases partly with a gift card, I was told they had to issue that part of the refund back on a gift card.

The problem arose when they refused to allow me to use the gift card I received during this return to "repurchase" the shoes I had a home that Famous Footwear now charged to my credit card at full price.

The store argued that the transaction was not technically a purchase even though the half-price shoes were rung up as a purchase at full price.

I will NEVER again shop at Famous Footwear. It is deceptive to not allow a person to use a gift card to pay the difference between the promotional price and the full price when they make the person repurchase the shoes at full price.

Response to--THE ONLY DECEPTION

AUTHOR: Anon - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, August 21, 2013

I TAKE GREAT OFFENSE TO YOUR COMMENT BELOW:

The fact is that stores are very familar with people buying things at a sale price and trying to then return them at full price.  They are also well aware(that's right you are not the first) of people who intentionally buy 2 items with the intention of coming back and trying to return the full price pair to keep the 1/2 price pair.

YOU OBVIOUSLY DON'T KNOW ME. I DON'T DO THE THINGS ABOVE THAT YOU ARE ACUSING ME OF DOING. I LIVE MY LIFE WITH HONESTY AND INTEGRITY. I DOUBT THAT YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS SINCE YOU ARE THE DISHONEST ONE--DISHONESTLY TWISTING MY WORDS AND ASSIGNING FALSE INTENTIONS TO MY ACTIONS!

I DID NOT BUY SOMETHING AT A SALE PRICE AND TRY TO RETURN IT AT FULL PRICE. Where did you EVER get that from what I wrote? You obvious don't understand simple English because I NEVER said that. I returned TWO FULL PRICE ITEMS AND DID NOT RETURN ANY SALE PRICED ITEMS.

I also DID NOT INTENTIONALLY BUY 2 ITEMS WITH THE INTENTION OF RETURNING THE FULL PRICE PAIR AND KEEPING THE HALF PRICE PAIR. One of the full price pairs I purchased was home delivery and I had ever intention of keeping it but it was the WRONG SIZE. The othe full price pair did not work with my orthotics once I got it home.

I NEVER said the deception had to do with the BOGO. I understand and NEVER expected that I should keep a half price pair when I have returned a qualifying full price pair. SO DON'T ME PUT IN THE CATAGORY OF PEOPLE WHO RETURN THINGS FOR MONEY.

My point is that technically, I am being made to RE-PURCHASE THESE SHOES, so WHY CAN'T I USE THE GIFT CARD FUNDS THAT I HAVE COMING TO ME FOR THIS RE-PURCHASE? The store put some of the refund money back to a gift card but then didn't allow me to repurchase my shoes with it? Instead they take the difference out of my credit card and I have to use the gift card at another time. THAT'S JUST NOT RIGHT.

I wouldn't doubt you are the store manager Larry on here trying to discredit my report.

The deal was buy one pair get the second pair for one half off. I bought three pairs, two at full price, one at half price. I could have purchased another pair at half price but couldn't find anything I wanted.

Here's the details:I originally bought three pairs: one at $40 (full price), one at $30 (full price) and one at $15 (half price) and received a buy-one-get-one-half price raincheck, since I didn't purchase a second half price pair at that time.

I returned the $40 and $30 pair because they didn't work out (one was home delivered and the wrong size, the other didn't work with my orthotics).

The store rang up ALL THREE PAIRS AS RETURNED (even though I didn't return the third pair). Then they re rang up the pair I kept, which now rang up as full price, meaning I owed a difference of $15 on that pair.

They refunded the part of the orginal purchase that I paid with a gift card back on another gift card which they DID NOT ALLOW ME TO USE ON THIS TRANSACTION TO "REPURCHASE" THE THIRD PAIR OF SHOES.  They claimed it was not a purchase so I couldn't use the card.

Instead, the new charges for the shoes came out of the part of the refund that is supposed to go back to my credit card.

MY POINT IS THAT THEY RECHARGED ME FOR THESE SHOES, SO IT IS A PURCHASE AND I SHOULD BE ABLE TO USE THE GIFT CARD TO PAY THE DIFFERENCE IN PRICE OF THE SHOES WITH IT. Instead I now have a gift card I will probably never use.

Response to--YOU DO REALIZE

Yes, you are wrong and I am correcting you. If you would read my report carefully, which is obvious you didn't, you would realize I WAS NOT UPSET THAT THEY NOW CHARGED ME FULL PRIZE FOR THE PAIR I KEPT. I NEVER SAID THAT WAS THE PROBLEM, SO DON'T TRY TO TELL ME THAT IS WHAT I WAS UPSET ABOUT.

I suspected they would charge me the difference between half price and full prize once I returned the qualifying pair. And no, I didn't return the shoes to get money back instead of a gift card. The gift card was only good for a small portion of the original purchase and the rest went on my credit card.

The portion of the original purchase made with a gift card went back onto a new gift card with the difference back onto my credit card.

HOWEVER, I WAS NOT ALLOWED TO USE THAT GIFT CARD TO PAY THE DIFFERENCE NOW OWING FROM THE HALF PRICE PAIR NOW BEING RUNG UP AT FULL PRICE AND THAT IS WHAT I FEEL IS NOT FAIR AND DECEPTIVE. I should have been able to use the gfit card for ANY purchase, including a pair of shoes I was now "rebuying" at full price.

Unclear

What is the promotion detail? Was it buy a pair for 1/2 price, or buy at least 2 pairs and pay 1/2 price of each?

I don't think they can "refund" back into a used gift card; however, they should be able to issue a new gift card with the same refund value in it. How exactly did they "refund" you?

The only deception...

AUTHOR: Robert - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, August 21, 2013

Is the one you seem to have tried to do..whether it was intentional or not.

Now follow me here...You bought 3 pairs of shoes under their BOGO Half-Off.  So you return two pairs, leaving you with ONE pair.  Now, they want to sell you that one pair back because according to them you no longer qualify for the BOGO offer and they want to sell you the one pair back at full price.

Okay if this is deception in your mind..please explain in a Buy One..get One for half off offer if you are only left with one pair you can get half off?  The fact is that stores are very familar with people buying things at a sale price and trying to then return them at full price.  They are also well aware(that's right you are not the first) of people who intentionally buy 2 items with the intention of coming back and trying to return the full price pair to keep the 1/2 price pair.  Well the offer wasn't buy one 1/2 off..it was Buy One..get one half off.    Whether or not this is actually what you tried to do, by your comments and actions it looks like this is exactly what you are trying to do.

The store argued that the transaction was not technically a purchase

- They are right..it is still an exchange even though they "re-rang" your other shoes.  As for the Gift Card..without knowing the exact details of the card and exactly what type of "card" it was.

You do realize

AUTHOR: Gizzy - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, August 21, 2013

You do realize that when you buy things and they say its half off that they always take the cheapest pair and make them half off. With that being said, you said you returned two that you paid full price on but kept the pair that was half off? You can't return items then expect to only pay half price for the pair you kept. Its not hard to understand the concept that when you buy something at full price , you get the cheaper one at half price. If you return the item (s) this voids the sale. If that was the case, everyone would buy one to get one half price then return the one they paid full price for. Does this make any sense to you? Did your gift card have enough money on it to actually be able to afford the pair you claim was the pair that was "half" off? How did they get your credit card? You gave it to them to be able to keep the pair of shoes you had a home , correct? Please correct me if I am missing something but seems to me you bought shoes, three pair on a gift card, the third and cheapest was the half off. You returned the other two pairs to get money back and then got upset that they charged you full price for the shoes that you thought you would be able to keep at half the price? Things are not that complicated. There was probably ( and I state that as just guessing on my end) that the gift card was credited back the "half" of which you paid. So you could not use the gift card maybe because there wasn't enough on it to pay the difference.

I TAKE GREAT OFFENSE TO YOUR COMMENTS BELOW:

The fact is that stores are very familar with people buying things at a sale price and trying to then return them at full price.  They are also well aware(that's right you are not the first) of people who intentionally buy 2 items with the intention of coming back and trying to return the full price pair to keep the 1/2 price pair.

YOU OBVIOUSLY DO NOT KNOW ME. I LIVE MY LIFE WITH HONESTY AND INTEGRITY AND DO NOT DO THE THINGS THAT YOU HAVE ACCUSED ME OF IN YOUR COMMENTS LIST ABOVE. I don't think you have any right to accuse me of fraudulant  and dishonest actions. YOU ARE THE DECEPTIVE ONE--DECEPTIVELY TRYING TO ASSIGN DISHONEST INTENTIONS TO MY ACTIONS!

I NEVER TRIED TO RETURN A SALE PRICED ITEM FOR FULL PRICE. Where did you EVER get that in what I wrote? I NEVER said that. I returned TWO FULL PRICED ITEMS and NO SALE PRICED ITEMS.

And no, I DID NOT BOGO WITH THE INTENTION OF RETURNING THE QUALIFYING PURCHASE AND KEEPING THE PAIR AT HALF PRICE. I don't and never have done that type of thing. I bought TWO FULL PRICED pairs with the intention of keeping both of them. However one pair was a home delivery and the WRONG SIZE so I returned it. The second full priced pair I found did not work with my orthotics once I got them home.

So two full priced pairs were returned and the half price pair kept. I also NEVER SAID I EXPECTED TO KEEP THE PAIR AT HALF PRICE. I;m returning the qualifying pair so I need to pay full price for the other pair. I have NO PROBLEM WITH THAT.

THE PROBLEM I HAVE WITH WHAT HAPPENED IS NOT THAT THEY RE-RUNG MY HALF PRICED SHOES BACK TO FULL PRICE. THE PROBLEM IS THAT FAMOUS FOOTWEAR DID NOT ALLOW ME TO USE MY GIFT CARD TOWARD THE REPURCHASE OF THESE SHOES!Part of the original purchase was with a gift card, which they had to put back on a gift card. SO WHY WOULDN'T FAMOUS FOOTWEAR LET ME USE THOSE GIFT CARD FUNDS TOWARD THE REPURCHASE OF MY SHOES?

SINCE I ESSENTIALLY REPURCHASED THESE SHOES AT FULL PRICE, I SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO USE THAT GIFT CARD IN THE TRANSACTION.

I wouldn't doubt that you are the manager Larry and not "Robert".
