I am the kind of person who has no problem paying a little extra to have things done fast and efficiently. So when I made a quick decision to move from my place to another I decided to hire a moving company to get the job done. I wanted to be able to rely on a reputable company to charge me money for taking care of me. Isnt that why most of us opt to PAY for services? If I didnt want to be treated well I would grab two random people and ask them to do the job. In fact, If I had done that, I can assure I'd be treated better than I was by the so called Father & Son 'establishment' or 'company' or whatever they assert themselves to be. Whatever they may say, this is most definitely NOT a company. This is a room full of monkeys, answering telephones, who have somehow figured out how to operate a credit card machine - Quite well, I might add. Surprising as it may be these guys, upon the first phone call, are civilized, calm, helpful and even look like they know what they're doing. Almost as if they were planning to actually move your stuff! Or show up! But keep your eyes peeled, because the view quickly changes while your position as the CUSTOMER changes wildly to the victim.

My personal experience did not include the movers not showing up, damaging furniture, overcharging for services provided, or posing as a different company. But after getting screwed in yet a different way, I researched more about Father & Son Moving. Every review outlet had more than half negative ratings of the company (If you see any positive ratings they say the same thing, "good company. dont believe bad reviews.." Wow, I'm supposed to believe that one of the monkeys didn't write that?) I read stories about each of the problems I listed above and more. I also found out that Denver is not the only place these people will rip you off. I saw horrible reviews from New York, New Jersey, Florida and Massachusetts. In fact, the first thing I see when I type just their name into Bing is a complaints site!

When I first decided to move I called my brother. He's my go to guy and is always reliable and helpful to me, so of course, that was my first option. But he had school on the day in question, so I decided to Google moving companies. I didnt have a lot of time so I just started going down the list, calling and trying to fit their schedule around mine. I was surprised with how accommodating F and S was because they never mentioned having a problem with the time I requested. It was easy as pie; I told Elliott over the phone how many pieces I had - Queen Bed, Medium Desk, Sectional Couch, TV. I want to be specific with what the items were in case someone out there was quoted more or less -- catch the scam! I was quoted $264.00 for the entire job of three hours, two guys. Elliot told me that in order to reserve the scheduled time he needed a credit card and a deposit of $100.00, but that the 100 went toward the total ending cost. Elliot also mentioned to me three times that the reservation could be canceled within the first 24 hours.

Three hours later, my bro called me telling me his class had been cancelled and he could help me. I quickly called Elliot back and told him I needed to cancel my reservation because I had found another option. He said,"Do you know what I went through to get you that reservation?!" I'm thinking, 'Well, no, I don't but isn't that your job?' What I actually said was, "Right, I apologize, I just need the deposit back on my card." Elliott hastily told me that he would take care of it and we hung up.

One hour later, I got a phone call from a man other than Elliott. He asked me why I had canceled my reservation and I answered that I had chosen a different option. He said, "Why? Which company are you with? What price did they give you cuz I can give you better!" Why? None of his business! I told him I wasn't with a different company but just had decided not to use their services. I told him that I would expect to see the deposit returned to me within the next few days. He said, "Oh, you want to change the day? We can change the date of the move, We can do it the next day. Or the day before. In fact, I can't give you your deposit back but, I'll tell you what, I'll give you a ten percent off the total." I again declined and asked for my money. He proceeded to tell me that I had wasted his time and for that he can't give my deposit back. I was furious, I told him that he had no legal right to keep my money when no services were even performed and no paper signed. I was even told I would be able to cancel if I needed to! I was well within the 24 hour deadline that Elliott had talked about. But the guy still refused and as I heard a group of men laughing in the background, I asked for the guy's name -- CLICK. He hung up on me. I told my brother and he decided to call Elliott directly. THIRTY minutes on the phone and the guy was just leading us on to believe that we would be able to get the money back because, in the end, he hung up on my brother too.

I had to file a dispute with my bank to attempt to get my $100 back, but I still haven't heard the results. And I have a major question: If the guys time was so terribly valuable, how could he spend it giving me hell? The way that they decided to handle the situation must have wasted at least two hours of their precious time, as well as mine. Just a loud warning: DO NOT CALL FATHER AND SONS MOVING

Theres no Father and no Son. Its all just a ploy to familiarize themselves with your money.

Easy way to get the upper hand

AUTHOR: Sabre - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, September 01, 2010

File a dispute with that $100 transaction with the bank/CC you used. Most of the times they side with the consumer, not the business, so they'll likely stop the charge right away.

The business can still argue that they are entitled to the hundred, but at this point they have to prove it's theirs and not yours, so the ball will be in your court instead of you having to fight them.
