FCNB said I was a day late on a payment. they politely stuck me with a $35.00 dollar late fee! I called them and told them I sent the payment 5 days in advance. they told me they would review my account and get back with me about the late fee.

I finally called them and they told me the late fee would stay on the account! Just a lovely bunch of SNAKES!! I am sending in my payment ten days in advance will see this time what happens. James D Davis Yukon OK

Late fees and over limit fee .. Someone has to be held accountable

AUTHOR: Laurie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, July 18, 2003

I received my billing statement from FCNB in June, I paid as normal as soon as I got it. It was due on the 29th of June. I was balancing my check book around the 5th of July and noticed that the check did not clear, I then contacted the number for this company, only to be given another number to call and when I did it was all automation. However it didn't show my payment being recieved, however it also told me I was current. So I let it go for a couple of more days, the check finally cleared. I just thought maybe they were just a little behind. No big deal. Well Wed. July 16th I received a billing statement from a place in Hicksville, NY for FCNB showing that I was being assessed a $35 late fee and a $35 over limit fee. I was livid. I attempted to call the number again, and once again I was given info that I was current and thanked me for my payment. On the back of the new billing there is no number to call , all I can do is send a letter. I am very very livid. I was in good standing with this card and now they've messed everything up. I was never told about a new billing company. Nothing....... Someone has to be held accountable for this and once again the consumer is screwed. I did write the letter, however I don't know whats going to happen. I can gtd, that if the amt that they are saying is due someone will be calling me, however the time they call I bet will be during the day while I'm at work and they will leave no number to call. I truly believe this is some type of scam or something. Something isnt right, but I dont know who to go to,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

#3 UPDATE EX-employee responds

payment processing

AUTHOR: Laura - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, March 27, 2003

in regardsto the last letter, payment processing must by law process all payments that are recieved that day before 2.00pm the computer system then updates all pending charges and credits at this time and anything that comes in after this time would be credited for the next day. We worked many hard hours processing and locating payments. Maybe your payment could have been credited on time had you actually mailed it in advance, and written your account number on the check. FCNB does not "hold " payments and that is against the law. all payments are processed when they are recieved.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

FCNB is the BIGGEST SCAM EVER!

AUTHOR: Karen - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, March 17, 2003

Do yourself a huge favor & get RID of this card! Run don't walk to the phone & close your account. FCNB is the absolute WORST. FCNB has several nice little tricks they like to employ. First of all, its automated system is always several days off (not a day or maybe 2 like a real credit card) so that when you call, you think that you have more credit than you do.

You charge...POOF! $35 over the limit fee. Second, they like to "hold" that charge until 1 day before your billing cycles itself so that you aren't aware that it is on there. Then, not only are you over the limit for the current billing cycle but you are also over for the new one but you didn't realize any of this so you didn't pay it early to clear the "over the limit amount" BEFORE the card cycled.

So guess what? POOF! Another $35. They like to do this with "so-called" LATE payments as well. Once, they credited MY payment to someone else's account. When I called, they were so NASTY to me!!! Anyway, after FINALLY crediting me the money back (& they acted like they were doing ME a favor), I had to call to ask that they remove the "late" fee. How ridiculous!

To add insult to injury, I demanded that any interest be removed from the monthly interest charged to my balance for that period of time & the CSRep said to me "Geez, lady..it's like three bucks" Well, kiss my a*s because if I had forgotten to send FCNB $3, I would've gotten a $35 late fee! Another time, I personally called in to check my balance after figuring out their little automated balance scam & the CSRep told me that they never got my payment (again) & I would be charged a "late" fee (I sent the bill in ONE WEEK before it's due date) if I didn't pay it like that day.

He then instructed me to go to the nearest Eddie Bauer to pay it. The people at Eddie Bauer looked at me like I was insane. They have no relationship anymore with those retail stores. So, again the payment was late. POOF! $35.

Lastly (& this one is by FAR my favorite), I got a statement saying the my balance was $50 less than the limit but that I had no credit limit available. I called to ask about it & they said that a store was "holding" a charge. OK, so was it charged or not? Neither, it was simply "holding".

Oh & by the way, since FCNB had already tacked on my interest for the month, once the "holding charge" went through, I'd be POOF! OVER THE LIMIT! ARRRGHGGHGH! I had to go to Western Union, pay $12 to have them wire the money to them to ensure that I would not go over the limit & guess what happened? Suddenly, the charge came out of limbo & went on my card at 3pm but because I wired the money after 2pm, it didn't count for that day. Hmmmmm.

The money wired at 2:30 & the charge magically came through at 3pm. FCNB can accept the charge after 2pm but not the credit. I see. I had this card for only 3 months a few years ago when I was attempting to restore my credit. Needless to say, this card DID NOT HELP. THROW IT AWAY!

Big Rip Off ..Spiegel, Eddie Bauer, and Newport News, are no longer affiliated with this bank

AUTHOR: Kay - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 16, 2003

I have had a credit card account with FCNB now for about 5 yrs for which i can use for purchases at Eddie Bauer, Spiegel, or Newport News. I presently have a card limit of 6600.00, or so i thought.

After calling Spiegel on 3/15/03 to place an order and use my credit card, i am told that my account has been closed. When i asked why, i am told that FCNB has not been making payments to Spiegel for consumer purchases, and therefore, Spiegel, Eddie Bauer, and Newport News, are no longer affiliated with this bank, thus closing all accounts, without ever notifying me of their intentions.

So now i wonder where all the payments i have made on time over the past years have actually been going if these companys have not been being paid?

After specifically stressing that this account is no longer a valid account, i can assume that i no longer owe this bank anything and have no intentions of paying anymore of the balance on this so called " closed account".

If this is how FCNB operates, you better think twicw about doing business with this company
