I agree with the previous post, this company is misleading people telling them that the parent plus loan can be deferred as long as your in school, you assume that means the student, but wrong this loan will come due in 6 months automatically because they claim the parent is the one that needs to be in school which in BS. When the loan originates it with the student and for the student not the parent and the fact that after 6months they require the parent to be in school for deferment is wrong on so many levels! Something needs to be done here they are misleading parents into thinking the loan wont be due till the child is out of school and then in 6 mnths wham you get a bill, they are ripping parents off and they are supposely a government agency????

I do not know when your recieved this loan. But the "Deferrment" while the Undergrad Student is in school is new.

The Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loans Act of 2008 put into place this "Deferrment" for while the dependent student is in school at least half-time. It applies to any loans that were dispursed AFTER July 1, 2008. If your loan was dispursed before that date this deferment does not apply.

If your loan qualifies for this you still have to submit an application for the deferrment, it is not an automatic process because you still have the choice of paying while they are in school. The only thing you have to realize that if you deferr the payments you are not defering the interest, which will continue to accrue.

The best thing you can do is if you qualify for the deferrment is either you or your son/daughter talk to the Financial Aid Office at their school to see if they know how to put this request in.

these people who use to be called Sallie Mae claim to have the authority of the federal law and are above all state laws. They are misleading, rude, uncaring and unkind. There parent plus loan terms states the loan can be defered as long as the dependent student is in school at least part time, but Heather w/pheaa told me all parent plus loans come due in 6 months unless the parent is a student! Very Misleading Sallie Mae/Pheaa/AES I hope my federal government realizes they granted authority to loan sharks who are looking to take 15% of your pay if you dont pay! PARENTS BEWARE DONT TAKE THIS LOAN! Your better off using a credit card, I thought the governemnt was in support of education not criminal activity!
