A few years back I ordered an expensive item, it was shipped FedEx Ground, and they delivered to the wrong apartment. If I wasn't paying attention I likely would have been out nearly $400.

Well, recently I ordered another expensive item and the seller was ignorant enough to ship it through FedEx Ground.

The first estimated delivery date was Jan 30.

Then it was changed to Feb 3.

Then it was changed to Jan 31. So on Jan 31, a Saturday, I waited at home all day because I had to sign for it. It never came.

When I called to complain I go some whining old bag telling me that it was still scheduled for Feb 3. When I asked her why THEIR website misleads customers and makes them wait around for shipments that aren't arriving, she just went completely quiet.

Thanks for wasting a good part of my weekend and taking forever to deliver a simple box, FedEx Ground! I will never buy anything from a company that uses FedEx Ground again.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Boise Customer Who waited all day on Jan 31st

AUTHOR: Fedex Manager - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, February 08, 2009

Well, I cannot speak for the whole company, but that is the nature of the package business. Probably what I would have done would have been to call the destination terminal and have them hold it for pick up. You could have found that out by getting the tracking number from your shipper and called customer service to have them call the terminal to hold it for pickup. Then they would have called you and let you know it was available or they could have given you a specific time it would have been delivered. Don't think that UPS is better because they are not. There isn't a delivery company, with the exception of FedEx Express or UPS next day air, that can deliver a package on a definite day. They can give you an estimated delivery, but things can affect it such as the weather in a specific state. They just try to estimate it as close as they can.
What you can do in the future is pay for an appointment delivery. The company shipping the box will charge you an extra fee (standard rate is $15). The package will come in to the terminal and the quality assurance department will call you to arrange a two hour window of time when you will be home and then the driver will deliver it in that time frame. If they do not deliver it, the manager in charge has a screaming fit with the driver and either the manager will come and deliver the package personally or the driver will do it because they can either be fired or put their contract in jeopardy of termination. Plus the driver gets paid extra to make sure the delivery happens on your time schedule!
