went to the store to send parcels from Ohio to Alaska and was grossly over charged. I looked up the exact weights on the Fedex website just a few hours after leaving the store and came up very different prices.

I want my refund of $28.57

Fedex vs USPS

AUTHOR: Anna - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, May 14, 2006

I love it up here.

I worked for the post office and they are as slow as can be. They may say 3-4 days but it is more like two weeks. I had tracking numbers on everything I shipped from the post office, so I know how long it took to get here.
DHL is double what Fedex cost. I"ve checked them out.

I have my own FEDEX account and did several parcels with that and was NEVER charged anymore then what I put on my account. I was OVERCHARGED when I didn't use my account.

I don't understand how there can be such a difference.

I went to the library and got on the FEDEX website the same night I mailed out my parcel using the same information I gave the FEDEX people and got a much lower price.

If there is a surcharge it NEEDS to be stated.
I"m very familiar with shipping things being as I worked for the post office for 5 years.
I never asked for FEDEX overnight to here. What gives you that idea?

UPS guaranteed me delivery in 6 days and it got here in 5.

#3 Consumer Suggestion

WELCOME!

AUTHOR: Nicole - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, May 13, 2006

First of all, welcome to the final frontier. Second of all, I have lived in Alaska for two years now, I understand your frustration. Here is where the extra money came in: extra charges for shipping to Alaska. There is almost always a surcharge to ship to AK and HI. It is something we Alaskans have learned to deal with. Hey at least you can GET ground. I have to pay for FedEx Air. (small island in SE Alaska)

Suggestion: ship USPS (regular postal service) priority. It will get to you in about 4 days and it will cost MUCH less than Fedex or UPS. Plus, if it gets earlier than they quoted you, they just deliver, unlike Fedex.

For the Fedex agent, read up on your training before you post. Fedex does not do overnight, first overnight or ANYTHING overnight to or from anywhere in Alaska. You will pay for overnight, but get second day (which will take three to four days, go figure). I have personally had a package go from Miami to Seattle to Anchorage (600 miles north of me) and sit in Anchorage for five days and then fly 600 miles south to me. The tracking looked something like this

4/1/06 package left Miami
4/1/06 package arrives Seattle
4/1/06 package arrives Anchorage
4/2/06 (early a.m.) package leaves anchorage
4/8/06 package arrives at destination

Mind you, it is a 2 hour flight from anchorage to Sitka. They have to fly (again island) so why did it take five days to check in from anchorage? and why does it always do this? I don't know. its not like we don't get fedex deliveries every days here in Sitka, whatever.

Anna, stick to USPS, or at least DHL, avoid Fedex and UPS, they will charge you more and take more of your time for the same services just because it has the word Alaska in your address. They think we are stupid.

once again, welcome! I hope you enjoy our great state!

Want my refund

AUTHOR: Anna - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, May 13, 2006

I sent the package ground. It contained clothing etc that was part of the move from Ohio to Alaska

I have since sent a letter to the Ohio Attorney General, filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and filed theft charges against them.
