On March 8th, I FedEx'd a package to my brother with a car tag and registration so he could test drive the car he was rebuilding for our son. That night, he called me to say he was rushing his wife to the hospital. (Turned out she had a brain anyuerism) I mentioned that I had FedEx'd the stuff to him and to just let me know what was going on with my sister in law. We figured, worse case, my mom could run to his house to get the package.

The next morning I call to track the package and I get switched to a customer service rep. He claimed that my package was being held in Brooksville because the address that was on it was no good. I explained to him that in the past month I had mailed 2 checks to that very same address and the postal service had no trouble finding the house and that UPS delivers auto parts to that address at least once a week. He still claimed that could not find it.

At that time I told him that is his driver was so inept that he could not read a map to just send the package back to me as my sister in law was, by that point, being rushed to a hospital hours from home and that no one would be there to answer the phone and give the driver directions.

The next day when I call to track it again, it is still in Brooksville! When I am switched to a customer service rep, they explain that they were trying to reach my brother for directions for delivery. I again explained that no one was home as they were in Tampa at the hospital.

The next day my package came back to me. On March 30th, I get a bill from FedEx, $23.69 for the attempted delivery to an address they could not find and another $14.11 to send it back to me!

I would also like to mention that my brother does not live on a dirt road in the back woods somewhere. He lives in an established community with paved roads and other homes around him and his street can be found on a map. FedEx is a rip-off! I had the priveledge of paying them to send my package on a round trip.

I am thankful that my sister in law did not die and we are praying she will continue to be fine with no complications and that the car runs because the truck (who had no trouble finding the address) came to pick up the car and ship to me without it ever having been test driven. FedEx has lost my business... from now on I use the Big Brown Truck or the USPS for my important mailings!

FedEx "hold-at-location"

AUTHOR: Novella - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, February 02, 2006

As a past veteran employee of FedEx, I strongly recommend you ALWAYS ask to speak to an Operations Manager at the FedEx station that is trying to deliver your package if you are not getting positive results with customer service reps. Before you blow your top and not benefit from your shipping need, as an option, consider asking the recipient of the package to leave a signed note stating to leave the package with a neighbor (give the address) OR ask for "hold-at-location" and perhaps a friend or neighbor of the recipient can pick the package up at the FedEx station. Unfortunately, all hired FedEx employees do not have a sense of direction OR excellent map skills as you think the company would require in order to give excellent service as guaranteed. While driving for over 10 years for FedEx, I befriended other delivery drivers, and found some of the same problems in the other major shipping companies as well. The bottom line is, FedEx is a mult-billion dollar company and no longer practices the excellent customer service it once held high on its priority list. The company motto used to be: "People, Service, Profit" back in the day. According to your experience, you got it! "Profit, Service, People"...and that affects the employees as well. Lastly, all shipping companies have policies that will ensure THEY are paid no matter what.
