We have been a PowerSeller on eBay since 1998. We do a LOT of shipping. Often involving large expensive items. Once in a while a package is mishandled by the shipper and damage occurrs. We always pay the shipping insurance and FedEx has no problem collecting the premium. We have had issues collecting claims in the past, however, I am writing only about the most recent claim.

The item was not excessively fragile, but is did have fragile components within the unit. Normal handling would not have encountered a problem, especially considering we overpack out items to help insure safe arrival. Our eBay feedback often indicates "great packing" "well packaged". Heck, 16 years of experience packaging!  The item weighed around 28 pounds, the NEW box was rated for 65 pounds. Triple bubble (the thick 1/2" bubble). So far, so good. Obviously, since I am writing this, something went wrong. FedEx Ground must have dropped the package since one of the internal choppers had shattered.

Having insured the $150 item for $150 (premium is the same for up to $299 of coverage), we placed a claim for $150. About 2 weeks later the feared DENIED letter arrived. I personally contacted FedEx, was sent over to the claims dept, chatted with someone in claims and asked for pictures to be emailed to her. I promptly did as requested. About 2 weeks later a letter came from someone different than the one I had spoken with. Again DENIED. The  reason stated both time was "Insufficient Packaging"  HMMMM!!! I do not think so!! Several inches of bubble and styro peanuts!!! FedEx was quick to accept the package and the associated fees. Yet when they BREAK something, they DENY the responsibility. How much do they pay their claims people? Possibly more than the claims they deny? Is it not the case that if an insurance premium is paid then a legitimate claim needs to be paid. If the claimant has a history of excessive claims than the account should be canceled after claim is paid. Having been a loyal customer of FedEx for over a decade, this is obviously not an issue.

We only what we paid for.
