I had the most wonderful experience at first. I even got one of my good friends to quite his job with Terminix to come and work there with me. I was supposed to get a $500 sign on bonus for helping them to find qualified technicians(Never got it). Went in for my 90 day review and was told that they couldn't pay me the agreed upon amount at time of hire, that profit was down. I was told that it might be more benificial to my family as they couldn't provide the benifits either that I might want to look elsewhere. One week later while I was at lunch they hired another girl to take my place. Apparently she would work for $2 an hour less than what I was hired at. Funny thing is that I was actually doing 3 peoples jobs. Truely! Right next to my desk were 2 other unoccupied desks. They couldn't afford to pay them either. My job was to process all of the pest control technicians tickets and dispatch. From those tickets I processed payroll and chemical usage. Most if not all of the tickets from South Coast Plaza came back stating no activity found(meaning no rodents or pests). My husband is the plumber there; on many occasions I have gone there with him at night. There are rats the size of cats. Cockroaches twice the size of my thumb. When shopping there you can even see them. The high priced resturants are over run with rodents and roaches too. They call frequently complaining. This is one of their million dollar service contracts. When chemical is used, it is so diluted that it is uneffective. Same goes with most of the schools, leisure world, The Irvine Company, most of the CB/Richard Ellis property. The technicians are not properly trained or certified, as they cannot pay them properly either. Chemicals are dumped in the gutters to wash out to our oceans and pollute. This company is one of the worst I have ever known.

#4 UPDATE EX-employee responds

I worked. There in the early 90s

AUTHOR: Cocky - ()

POSTED: Sunday, August 18, 2013

They had those same accounts when I worked ther. I'm surprised they still have them. I worked there 4 months and 5 inspectors left with in that period! I would go and do control services and find damage, explain to the owner that there is termite or rot damage and they would be all pissed off because the other inspectors that went prior to me never mentioned it! I've been in the termite business over 32 yrs and I never worked for a company with such a lack of knowledge in the termite industry! ( termite treatment and wood repairs ). So I know were you are coming from! You should get ahold of the agricultural dept. They should test the soil at their old office site in Belflower!

#3 UPDATE Employee

Rebuttal - Jennifer Lempka

AUTHOR: Fenn Mgmt - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, June 19, 2010

Jennifer Lempka was employed at Fenn from 3/18/04 to 6/11/04 - less than 3 months. It should have been less. We found out she lied on her application but kept her anyway in good faith.

Jennifer did not do the work of 3 people. She did schedule and print routes for the next day but the bulk of the scheduling was done by another employee that has been with Fenn since 1987. Jennifer processed the technician's paperwork from the prior day but there were so many mistakes we would have to redo 90% of her work.

As for Jennifer giving names of our accounts and any problems that they may or may not have, it is not true. If any one of those accounts had the problems that Jennifer described, we would not still have them as customers and to this day, 6 years later we still have every one of them.

Our technicians are trained and licensed as required by law. Unlicensed trainees go out with managers and senior technicians until they have passed the test given by the Structural Pest Control Board and received their licenses. Except for any chemical that calls for it to be mixed with water our technicians do not dilute chemicals. They are mixed as per the label instructions and used in accordance with those instructions.  Chemicals are not dumped in the gutters, we do not even wash our trucks in the yard nor do we hose down our parking lot. It is not legal to do so.

All of our technicians are paid the standard industry wages. Jennifer processed daily paperwork and did scheduling, she was not in a position to know and had no idea what the technicians are paid.

And finally, the inspector that Jennifer is talking about was with Fenn until he resigned with a letter of resignation in June of 2005. In the last 6 months that he worked for Fenn there is not one week that he did not work 40 plus hours. Within just this last month this inspector has requested to come back to work for Fenn.

I have nothing to say to Jennifer personally. I hope she is doing well and building a good life for herself and her family. I sincerely hope that she will eventually grow out of these childish name calling games.

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Agree and Disagree

AUTHOR: Mark - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 17, 2010

I too was an ex-employee. However, I was a technician. Although, I agree with you that they were understaffed inside the office and they seemed to replace people pretty quickly (Any position). I'd have to disagree with you and the un-trained and un-certified technicians. I was trained well and legitimately got my Field Rep License Branch 2 & 3. They paid us the avg median for any pest company and in some cases better than the major companies. IE: Orkin, Terminix, Western, ETC

The chemicals have to be diluted because if they were not they would be to strong and may cause more harm than good. We would inspect while we are there and file our reports in. We don't work at night so we go by employee reports that are there at the place of business for any nocturnal activity. Anyone would know that most rats are nocturnal so that would be kinda difficult for the Tech to go out there during upaid after work hours to just inspect for rodents. It has to be reported in order for anything to get done. Plus it depends on the size and sanitation of the building as well. We're not paid to clean up the place. We're there just to inspect and treat.

I've never heard of a sign on bonus ever from that company. If there was a sign on bonus I would have been recruiting friends left and right. I'm sorry that you had a bad time there. I didn't nessicarly have a great time either but I'm not going to be working myself up over it. I think that the Technicians there do a good job. The office personnel do a good job and the upper management needs to improve on their skills on understanding the work stress that they implement on their own employees.

I do think that they are a little out of touch with their employees and put too much pressure on their Tech to sell instead of doing what they are licensed to do. I could complain about the office personell messing up my notes and making a mistake that ultimately cost me my job. But it isn't fair to the company. As it was one persons mistake not the entire company that it happened.

There a good company to hire on for a job. Not necessarily a good company to work for. . unless your a collage student looking for a short-term job. The techs there have been working there for a long time and the KNOW what there doing. There was only one route that I know of that keeps getting a new person and that would be the one to question the new Tech on. But they would have a lot of help from the other techs. They do watch out for each other there.

Once again, I'm not saying what you wrote isn't true. You had a situation and it probably wasn't handled in the greatest manner. But please don't knock the techs. It's not their fault that you lost your job.
I do wish you luck in the future.

As for me I'm hoping to make it in the military still. And Staying away from the pest industry as a career :P

Fenn disputes unemployment benifits too

AUTHOR: Jennifer - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, December 24, 2005

I forgot to mention that I was releived of my position that day and handed my final paycheck, even though I was doing a remarkable job and willing to except low wages and no benifits. I went home and filled for unemployment benifits. Much to my suprise I was denied, as Fenn told the department of unemployment that I had an emotional outburst one day out of the blue and just walked out. It went to hearing. I was very nervous, but very honest. Linda Lots the office manager lied through her yellow teeth. The judge saw right through her and awarded me back pay and benifits! My friend stayed on with Fenn in fear that he would loose his license due to the business practices of Fenn. I never did get that $500 sign on. Eventually Fenn hired more 'technicians' that couldn't make mud if you handed them a pail of water and a pail of dirt. My friends hours went from guarenteed 40 hours to 2-4 per week. He too found a job with another company. Just so you know, I run my own division of a nation wide demolition company at this time and have for more than a year. My skills and abilities were not the problem.
