We inherited our propane tank with our house & I first called the number on the tank for refills. At the time the company was owned by Pro Am, a local company. They too presented me with a credit application wanting all of our bank account, personal & credit card information, which I refused to divulge & insisted on paying by the delivery.

When Ferrell Gas bought them out, I signed a new rental contract & continued to order from them, & was usually treated somewhat rudely on the phone with every call because they didn't have our credit information. We have excellent credit, I just don't think they have any reason to have such personal information.

But the real reason for this report happened just last year. I had already signed up for another year with them & according to their contract, we can't let any other propane company fill our tank. I called them for a delivery & was shocked when I found out they charged me $2.99 a gallon! AFTER paying them, I made a few local calls & found out that local companies were charging between $1.99 & $2.49 a gallon.

One of the local companies also told me I could call Ferrell Gas & let them know I'd found a better price & they would credit my account. (Not refund my money, but credit my account!) Knowing I would not need propane again until my contract was renewed, there was no reason to call them because I was going to lose that money anyway. And it wasn't about the money, I just don't appreciate getting ripped off.

Added to this the fact that they have a SEVEN-day delivery window (that is, if you run out, you cannot get a refill at their regular "low" price if you need it before 7 days) & I feel that this company is not worth doing business with. Over the last year, I have told everyone I know about their shady business practices & I have heard others' stories that have confirmed my feelings about them. I heard just last week that someone ran out of propane & was told there would be a $300 service charge + 10 cents per gallon (on top of their already "low" price!) to deliver it ASAP. And a company employee told me that Ferrell Gas had been bragging that they could charge anything they want because they planned on buying out all the smaller companies eventually.

Do not sign up for ANYTHING with this company! We are not poor & I don't mind paying a little extra for courteous, respectful service, but this company does not care at ALL about its regular customers & they will milk you for every cent they can get from you if you have a rental contract with them. I will not EVER buy anything from this company or anyone they manage to buy out again.
