This concerns a Visa account I have had for 12 years through my credit union. In that time I have never missed a payment or been late once. Recently, my credit union sold off their card operations to FIA Card Services. FIA Card Services specializes in sending out billing statements that are cleverly disguised as \"junk mail\". Apparently I threw out a billing statement a couple of months ago, mistaking it for junk mail. This caused me to be late on a payment, ONCE. Realizing my mistake I called FIA immediately to explain. They immediately demanded to know my bank information so they could take a payment from me. The person on the other end sounded like an inarticulate, stupid gang thug so I told him no. I told him I\'d be sending my payment the normal way in about ten days.

Since then I have been harassed and threatened by FIA at least every other day, by telephone. This morning they harassed me at work and once they reached me, they tried to talk to my wife.

I got a supervisor on the phone, another smack-talking ghetto rat who tried to strong arm me into giving up my checking account. I told her no. And I demanded they stop calling me. She said they would not stop. I said \"fine, then cancel my account.\" The hood rat replied: \"Fine, I just canceled your account, but we gonna keep calling you every day until you make your payment.\"

Do a simple google search and you will see this is standard practice for these thugs.

MAXED OUT

AUTHOR: Bman - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 21, 2010

What both the commentary and the employee do not let you know is that poor folk, those without much money, are the planned target for big banks like Bank of America (the underwriter to this card). This "service" is out to make profits and not to serve it customers. Notice the employee (besides misspellings) also explains that what you have is theirs and no exchange is ever mentioned. They would call every day, or so it was when I ran into a similar situation, and sometimes it would be during hours they are legally not supposed to call. I remember when they called every hour on the hour even on weekends and Sunday. This is blatant harassment. In my case I paid them what I could and they were NEVER satisfied. The way they handled a customer of over 15 years to a Credit Union (me) was to raise my APR to near 30%, then without notice cut my credit limit in half, and when I came close to paying them off when asking if they would lower my APR simply shut the card down. They used the Credit Bureau as their excuse; only the strikes against me came ONLY from them. When the problem began I called and asked if I could go into a payment plan and they refused and said to contact my relatives and friends to get the banks money. So I was too poor to eat, I paid what I could and communicated with them, they refused to help me, and then kept piling fees onto the amount so it took awhile to pay them off all the while harassing me. Luckily I was able to find two more jobs and other services were more civil. It is your and my money not theirs that make them their profits. They do not give loans, they charge us extortionist fees if we do not comply, and make it so we can never catch up IF poor. They then are arrogant with their collection practices as demonstrated by the "put down" that the employee tried to give you. They want you to not succeed so their profit base can rise, and if you do not pay I am sure they can get it through taxation write offs or insurance. Many cards place insurance on policies to recoup funds. Do not forget that WE offered a BAIL OUT for THIS BANK - try to get a loan or any consideration from them. They have no concern about the community or people that they target. It is not unlike the reports and films about the Mafia. Only the Mafia offered a real service. Watch the film MAXED OUT to begin to understand the way this terrible slavery type system came about. It is a relatively recent phenomenon since any APR above 12% was once considered a crime! USURY.

Visa account

Fia card services are not cleverly billed disguised as junk mail, they are statments that have to do with the card that you have, for instance the last one I viewed today that was an actually copy of what the cardholder literally looks at, was Alaska Airlines and looked just fine. You threw out a banking statment "mistaking" it for junk mail, can you please tell me why the other statements you recieved were not mistaken but this one statement was? Was the envelope its usually billed in different than the previous months?

Realizing you forgot to make a payment, and you havent been late before, can usually just be simply called in "Hey I missed a payment, my first time, I don't recall getting the statement, is there any way we can waive this fee" Usually, in most cases, we can waive the late fee, but however this is rarely done, because then eventually cardholders are not being held responsible for their mistakes.

I don't see why any Supervisor that you spoke with would be demanding a payment from you, unless it was Collecting for a payment you did not make for a period of time, in that case yes, the bank would be instructing their employees to contact you to recieve the money.

Fia Card services does have the right to call you regaurding your payment you havent made, if you would have made the payment they would not be contacting you continously TO make the payment.

Also, Its not standard process. I'm sorry you've had a bad experience, but keeping in touch with your bank is a good idea when it comes to caring about your money

Did you not notice the statement not coming in the mail at the same time it does almost every month?

Where is the RipOff?

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

YOU made a mistake.  It then took you a couple of months to realize this mistake.

Once you realized it you were probably already late, perhaps 30 or even approaching 60 days late if this was truly a couple of months.  Why would you then want to make them wait another 10 days(to even send it) for a payment that was already late?

If it was because you don't want them to have access to your account, then I hope you are not sending checks because if that is the case..they already do.  If you are sending payments from your banks on-line system..guess what..they already have your account.  If you have EVER done a payment by phone or on-line they have your account.

I don't know what "threats" they told you.  But if those threats included reporting you late on your credit report, that is no threat they can(and will) if you are at least 30 days late.  It does not make your case any stronger to say that you are going to make them wait at least another 10 days for YOUR mistake.  If those threats included that they will charge-off your account and turn you over to a collection agency.  Again that is not a threat, they can and if you are late enough they will.  By you closing your account you have just speed up this clock.

Also, while I can't say for sure what their statements look like.  I don't think I have ever mistaken any statement for "junk mail".  Because at the very least it would be in an envelope not some postcard or something like a pamphlet or something on newsprint.  It would have your name on it and not just "resident" or "occupant".  The chances are also very good that it would have the bank name and something like "statement enclosed" on the envelope.
