On October 1 2007, there was an unauthorized on-line transaction of $820 that posted to my account, which caused me to have a negative balance on my account which in turn caused over-draft fees to be assessed to every transaction that was legally authorized by me to the tune of over -$400. by the end of the week.

It should also be noted that although I reside in Illinois, and every transaction I made immediately before, and after, this $820 came from Illinois, this transaction originated in either NY or AZ. I immediately filed a police report. I requested the bank stop its fees. Of course they did not because even thought it was obvious to me, it wasn't obvious to Fifth third (turd) bank.

After going around and around with the bank I was told any fees charged to my account once the investigation was complete (which could take up to 10 business days)would be refunded to my account. The overdraft fees were not because why would they want to give me my money back? According to Fifth Third(turd), obviously I should have known someone would effectively clean out my bank account AT ANY TIME,and therefore I should some how maintained enough in my account to cover ANY (unauthorized)amount that came through.
Facts:

#1. This bank should have IMMEDIATELY put a fraud alert on my account and not only refunded the $820 that was in dispute, but also STOPPED all fees, until they completed their so-called investigation. That is what normal banks do. That was not done. I was treated as a criminal by the bank. I was not only a victim of fraud, but a victim of theft by the bank as they continue to rack up fees on my account.

#2. As it turns out not only was this person able to go into my checking account and change my Email address to his, he was also able to add himself as a payee on my account. (Of course 5/3 has no idea how this could have happened because I must have did this too)

#3. One of Fifth Third on-line customers service representatives named Nicole claimed that I was the only person this had happened to in the three years(because their bank is so secure) since she has worked at the bank. I told her that a was not only insulting, but a ridiculous statement to make.

#4. This is the second time this has happened to my account in less than two years. The last attempt was made January 2006. Luckily at that time I did not have the available funds to allow the transaction to go through.

This is the last straw! Fifth Third(turd) talks about being secure, but they are obviously NOT. I will ASAP close this account and take my money elsewhere. I have also filed a complaint against the person whose name appeared as the payee and Fifth Third bank.

Something doesn't seem right. You are either very lax with protecting you banking information or you are indeed trying to commit fraud.

If you truely feel that the bank is in the wrong, file complaint with the appropriate banking authorites (I believe it may be the OCC, but it depends on who the regulating agency is). They will conduct an investigation to be sure the bank followed regulations in investigating your claim.

Good luck.
