First, don't hate because we chose to try Fingerhut. I know it was a bad choice but you live and learn. I am here to tell everyone what happened to us.

My daughter wanted to get her credit score started. And years ago I used Fingerhut to get my credit score started and it worked wonderful. However, times have changed obviously and Fingerhut is just not the same anymore.

Daughter and myself signed into Fingerhut and she was given $100.00 credit. She chose a ring for ME. It was a mothers ring and was $109.00 Total. So, she paid the excess of $9.00 first and then they took four weeks to ship the ring. However, it arrived and it is exactly as described.

Now, her first payment would have been due October 8th. So, we signed into her account on October 7th and set up an automatic draft to appear each and every month when it was due. No problem. We signed back in the next day, October 8th and the payment showed that it was debited and attached to her billing.

Then, on October 10th they called us wanting their payment. This is where it gets good. I/we signed back into the account with Fingerhut on the phone and guess what, it was reversed. They took the money from the bank account and then turned right around and reversed it back into the account. So, I said there must be some kind of mistake. I go into the bank records and sure enough, it was reversed back into the account. Fingerhut was responsible for this and they would not explain to me why.

So, I go back into the Fingerhut again, try to set up revolving payments and it wouldn't accept them. I was frustrated. I wouldn't give them our account information over the phone (Banking). I told them there is something not right. After arguing with me they hung up. But they continued calling everyday. And for three days in a row I tried setting up this revolving payment schedule and finally on the third day it took it. Now, it's five days late according to them. But it took the October payment from our account again. And this time Fingerhut didn't reverse it back to my account.

Now, new billing cycle says LATE FEE equals to exactly what the October payment was. So initially nothing was paid on the account or on the interest. And with this new billing cycle they decided to include some racked up charges for Safeline Plus that I never ordered or agreed to pay for. And ultimately that means the monthly payment didn't even come close to covering the Fee's and Safeline Plus (whatever that is for). They did send a thing with the first billing cycle for Safeline Plus and it had a place to sign if you wanted to use that service, but we tossed it in the trash as not needed. Yet, they still charged her for it.

This means that it will take twice as long to pay off this debt than what was initially expected in their chart they give you when you choose to buy something.

How on earth can any company charge a late fee equal to you payment amount for that month? And how can they take the money out of your Bank on the Payment due date and then reverse it and charge you DOUBLE? And how can they charge for a service I didn't order?

I am going to make a few phone calls tomorrow, first to my lawyer. And second to our Attorney Generals office. I am going to get to the bottom of this without going through a NON ENGLISH SPEAKING INDIA PHONE REP. That's exactly who would be answering their phones should I call them. Been there done that.

I am just warning anyone that chooses to deal with Fingerhut. If you do go that route, expect to double (if not more) your payments two weeks ahead of time or you will find out the hard way like I did.

Fingerhut did not use to do this to anyone back when I was using them. In the 90's. I loved Fingerhut then. I can't say the same now.
