I am enrolled in a credit notification program that notifies you of any changes in your credit report. I recently recieved a notice from this program that Fingerhut had reported me to the three major credit bureaus for having a delinquent account in the sum of $146.00.

I have never had any dealings whatsoever with Fingerhut so I figured that it would be easy to clarify this misunderstanding. However, I was very mistaken.

I contacted Fingerhut Customer Service and they informed me that there was no way for them to pull up any information on me or this "order" without an account number. (Of course I didn't have the account number since I never ordered anything from them.)

I spoke to five or more different customer serivce representatives and they all routed me to the same number at their card services department (1 800 755 9333) where "someone would be able to give me the account number". This card services number is an automated line where you have to enter the account number before speaking to a live operator. Without the account number you simply get a message telling you to call back when you have the account number available and then the line disconnects.

Now in order for me to dispute the charges, Fingerhut is telling me that I must put my dispute in writing along with the account number. However, they are not willing to give me the account number.

Is there anyone that can help me?

Phantom Account

I bet if you call them and say you want to order but do not remember your account number, they will find it quick enough. It is ridiculous to believe they cannot pull up information via name or address - something.

Fingerhut Corp
KANSAS CITY, MO 64101
1-800-508-7800

Fingerhut Corporation Customer Service
PO Box 1250
St. Cloud, MN 56395-1250
1-800-208-2500

In addition to trying the numbers above - on your credit report should list the account number that is delinquint along with the amount and name of company. They must provide that information. With that you can call them again or report thr chanrge as fraudulant with the credit agency. Fingerhut will then need to provide proof of the debt within a certain amount of time or the delinquincy notice is erased.

You have many options - don't give up.
