I think I found the problem!



This genius took her car to "Fire Stone" instead of going to "Firestone".

At first I thought it was a simple typo, but the OP spells it that way throughout the entire post and a rebuttal.



Obviously you DO NOT know how to "check the basics" as you stated.

If you did, you would have checked the oil at least a few times during those 5 months and 4,000+ miles.



Furthermore, your vehicle never needs to be "topped off" unless it has a leak or burns oil.

(Especially with a synthetic).

Engines that are in good mechanical condition do not "use" or "burn" oil.



On the rare occasion that I pay someone to change my oil, like when out of town driving, etc., I ALWAYS do a check for myself of everything under the hood as soon as I pull it away from the shop. This includes looking underneath for leaks, and also pulling the dipstick for myself and checking the level.



And, I know for a fact that your "high end" vehicle has a low oil warning light which you obviously just ignored. Most newer vehicles will trip this light somewhere between 1 and 2 quarts low. It may also trigger the check engine light.



You really should work on your basic third grade level spelling and grammar, as your borderline illiteracy does not lend much credibility to your story.

All that double-talk doesn't undo the damage that you could have avoided by not neglecting the number one maintenance procedure of checking your oil level. $5500, ouch.

It's an Infiniti not Infinity.

Just to address some of the statements that have been made,I'll take a minute to do so. 1st off I'm definenetly not here to defend myself or beliefs of what I feel was an injustice. I'm not sure how familiar you are with an Infinity M45, but that doesnt matter. At any rate once the oil level gets to low I have been informed by the Infinity dealership that my car is designed to shut off,or it will not contiue to run once its cranked, in which it did this and that is why I didnt drive it any further. I am not a mechanic and that is why I pay for my vehicles to be serviced. You are correct in saying if there was half the oil put in my car that was required it would not be gone without some sort of leak. After being examined by two different Mechanics as well as Fire Stones own Inspector only to determine it had no leaks of any sort nor Oil consumption issues or history of oil problems, I'm inclined to belive what these three professional men are saying because they are the ones who have physically handled my car and not the ones reading a story and drawing their own conclusions because due to what the car should or should not have done. My carwas coming upon its maintenance being due and I was told by Fire Stone I would be ready for my oil to be changed at 78k. I had not reached that point and my maintance alert came to let me know that. Because I was able to drive up to 4k over a 5 month period obviously SOME oil was put in the car but the issue is and remains that my car was not topped off the way I was told and I would have rather gotten in trouble with my car for being late with a maintenance and not lack of oil. Inspite of how this story sounds or If I checked the oil after I left fire stone or even over the 5 month period and driving 4k during that time,there is no explanation nor eveidence that exists as to why oil was not there. Perhaps their tech thought he toppped it off went on break and sent my car on its way maybe Im not sure however its easier to tell a customer " you should have checked your oil " even though I just paid for someone to do that for me. At any rate Ive learned Im not the only one this has happened to and because everyone says you will never be able to prove how much oil was put in it then why is it ok for me to be told 5.9 qts was put in it and that be accurate?? Ive never had a issue like this before and inspite of my car being a 2006 my maintenance has always been kept up and my engine was examined throughly in and out and the mechanic who had to rebuild my engine has done a great job in doing so and my car runs great but if I checked my car right after I left fire stone and there was not the amount of oil I was told that was put in the car its sill wrong.My car should only need 1 qt of oil between oil changes not 5. So no matter how you view it The mechanics I'm dealling with who have had eyes and hands on disagree with your opinion while you are from a far and they have eyes hands and expierence on Infinty M45 close up however Im not a hostile person and appreciate your opinion but I paid for a maintenance and I dont believe I got what I was told I had received because this is obviously not the first time Ive had my oil changed but it is the first time Ive had to replace a engine due to a lack of disappearing oil with no leaks or eveidence of sutt on my pipes or smoke or anything else, but again Thank you have a great evening.

There is no way of knowing how much oil was put in the car or how much oil the car burns due to your negligence of failing to check your oil level for 5 months/4000 miles.

Are you really saying that you haven't even checked your oil in 5 months and 4,000 miles?  That's just nuts. 

Firestone cannot possibly be held responsible after that amount of time and miles has passed.

Really?  Don't people know how to check their oil anymore?  We had a lady some time ago here who actually did not know what a dip stick is.

Okay you have several issues.  It was 5 months from the time of your oil change to the time you had problems.  Not only that but you had driven 4,000 miles since the oil change. That hardly qualifies as "just" having your oil changed. 

Next this is a 6 year old car so you should also question your mechanic's concept of a "clean" engine.  Because not only does your car have 73K miles.  If Firestone did as this mechanic said and put in only 1/2 the oil it requires, there would be other obvious damage.  Not only that if you checked it and it was dry, it does not go to 1/2 to empty without some sort of leak.  I would also bet that your vehicle has some sort of low oil warning that would have indicated you were getting low.

But of course if you think you have a case, then file a suit against them for the damage.  When you do ask your "reputable mechanics" to go to court with you and under oath make the same claims they have made to you.  If they will do that for you then you may have a shot, but if they refuse that should tell you all you need to know about who is actually responsible.    When you do this I hope you post the results regardless of the outcome.
