After promising a moving rate of $1199 after being told that I was moving to San Francisco, I was told at the last minute that the company was basically going to hold my items hostage or put them in storage/throw them out if I didn't pay an extra $300--I was told this 12 hours before my stuff was supposed to be delivered.  I was shocked.  The reason was because the city of San Francisco doesnt allow semi trucks in the streets and that was the way that the delivery people were going to get the boxes to my place... first of all, they KNEW I was going to San Francisco and hid this fee from me in the beginning, to get me to sign the contract on the $1199 price so that later they could just increase the price and I would have no choice.  Second, the man I signed the contract with promised that I could call him at any time and he stopped answering my messages that I left after the company didn't reimburse me for the extra charge.  Third, one company representative said that all of San Francisco has this rule and I should have KNOWN the rule because apparently everyone is supposed to know it and that responsibility is on me to know the MOVING RULES REGARDING SEMI TRUCKS in San Francisco?? Do you know those rules?  Do your relatives and friends?  Because if you don't know the law inside out don't use this company they will SCAM you!  And besides all that, a different representative told me that in fact the entire city didn't have this rule but that he knew that it existed but had hoped that it wouldn't be enforced.  So the company apparently regularly goes around the law or tries to get by without paying fees hoping that the laws won't be enforced.  Fourth, I was told that it wasn't "that big of a deal" that the company charged $300 extra and I was being cheap.  When I said I was a student and moving, the representative Kevin Brown said that he would compensate the $300 out of pocket to me and when I called back he would not pick up.

This company is a SCAM!  Please please don't use them.  They're absolutely horrible.  I wish I hadn't, I am so much in the red.  I've borrowed from my family and friends to the point that I can't face people.  The company promised a price, violated it, then promised compensation and violated that as well, and then provided different reasons completely as to why I was even paying the extra $300.

the client did not read his estimate agreement

AUTHOR: First Call Movers - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, May 28, 2013

Although we apologize for the client's dissatisfaction, we must point out that by signing his estimate agreement he acknowledged and agreed that "if semi-trailer cannot get reasonably close to building or house for loading/unloading, a shuttle truck may be required to perform relocation at a minimum charge of $300."  We apologize that his sales representative was not aware of San Francisco's special rule and we have taken corrective action by educating our sales representatives accordingly.
