First Consumers National Bank is a rip off. I opened a secured credit card account with them to establish some credit. This was my first credit card account ever.

I sent them $100 dollars for a security deposit and that was to be my limit. I sent my payments in every month like clockwork. One time a payment was late due to the mail being slow and they charged me a late fee and an overlimit fee.

My credit card had a balance of around $160 and I told them to cancel my account, apply the $100 security deposit towards the amount due and send me the rest. This was 2 years ago. The account was not closed and they continued to add fees to it over the months.

They are now trying to say that I owe them $934 for a card that should have been closed a long time ago. I have requested an itemized bill for the account to find out what I was charged all the additional money for and they refuse to send me one. They also refuse to talk to me at time. If anyone can help, please let me know! They have put a bad mark on my credit and I want to get it fixed.

#3 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Hmmm.. Your math does not add up

AUTHOR: Gracin - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 22, 2003

You said you had a balance of $160 and a security deposit of $100. If you applied the $100 security deposit, that would leave you owing $60. There is nothing to "send back" to you but a bill. Now you did not pay the outstanding balance at all, let alone on time, and you wonder why you got late fees????

As for requesting the itemization of the charges, they sent you statements every month with everything that was charged right on there. If you choose to ignore your statements by just throwing them away because you think the sum of $100 is greater than $160, it is not the banks fault.

Open every statement you get, from every bank. If there is an error you only have a limited time to dispute it. Ignoring a problem does not make it go away. If you would have noticed on the first bill after the deposit was redeemed, you could have taken care of it BEFORE the fees added up.

Late fees are because you pay late.
Overlimit fees are because you are over your credit limit.

You agreed to pay these fees by not abiding by your agreement to pay on time and staying within the credit limit given. Check your disclosure.

My charge account with FCNB has been closed for a year and they still charge late fees and over limit fees. I have not recieved a phone call in months from them because they are closed. I was paying on my new port but My June payment was posted very late and July has not been posted yet. If anyone wants to take legal action please respond.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

They got me too

AUTHOR: Linda - ()

POSTED: Thursday, April 25, 2002

I too had a card through FCNB. I too, somehow got a lot of late charges, and then the overlimit charges. I have tried repeatedly to contact them. They always put me through to the "debt management" department. It is a recording, wanting all my personal information, and they will get back to me in 48 hours. They will not get back to you. They only hope you will give up. I will call today, to see if they really closed my account. None of these ripoff banks want to close the accounts, because they wan to continue to rip you off. I have the same problem with First Premier. It took me 4 times, before the actually closed them. FCNB is the worst
