First Merit stated their First Merit check cashing policy over the phone and in person.  

First Merits first merit check cashing policy changed 7 times yesterday morning, to whatever fit the man-agers sinister wants at that moment, changing moment to moment.

Twice in one minute, the manager indicated the policies stated minutes before and on the phone and In the Contract were 'teller errors'.

The contract is clear as the language used to describe the contract...no problem for First Merit to cash First Merit checks.

Even after agreeing to the "Re-re-revised policies" requirements [an illegal 10$ fee, and signing up for a FM account...the manager stated "SIR< SIR< we can't cash the check for you"...clear breach of contract, insulting and demeaning behaviour exhibited by this 'man-ager'...absolutely illegal and horrible treatment of non customer, customer and possible future customer.

Take my advice to stay away from First Merit banks, I came home with a marked up check [these markings mark the check as 'already rejected by a bank'. +then I get a call from an anonymous LT. from Akron Police...apparently the bank didn't appreciated my calling tellers to get an average idea of what bank policy might be from teller to teller, moment to moment. I got 7 variances in policy.

They think they're slick, tricky, and they are indeed horrible people to have to try to do business with.

I let myself and my check get run through their illegal ringer...the STILL wouldn't cash the darn good check, in breach of clearly stated language and written contractual obligations. 

I can ablsolutely guarantee to you [as I did to the anonymous cop] that I will never go near these banks and don't want ever to have anything to do with the banksters who dwell in them.

In attempting to translate this "report" I think I got it..

You had a check written on this bank but you are not an account holder at this same bank.
As a result you wanted to cash the check but they wanted to charge you a $10 fee.  You of course "think" that because the person who wrote the check is a customer that you should not have to pay this fee. 

If this is what you are saying the fee is NOT illegal.  You are being charged for this "service" because YOU are not a customer.  You have a choice to take it to your own bank and cash it for free, to a Check Cashing place and pay their fee, open an account at that bank, or pay this bank's fee.

As for them calling the police..I would have to.  If I had someone call the bank 7 times to try and find out the policy of cashing a check I would think something was up as well.

Oh and by the way there is no law that requires a bank to cash a check if you are a non-customer.   Especially if they feel that it may be fraudulent.
