Received in the mail, an approval notice from First Premier, that I had been pre-approved for a credit card. All I needed to do was send in the processing fee ($49.00), sign the short form and receive my card. I read the small print where there was an annual fee and it would be added to the card - Cool, because it was something like $59-75 - I don't remember exactly, but it was acceptable at the time.

I received the card, removed the strip and on the accompanying leaflet was how much I had been approved for ($350.00). I was excited because my daughter was making a trip out of state and I was going to be tight money-wise. So I went to charge some necessities for the trip. Got the suprise of my life to find out that my purchase was declined. I was embarrassed so I asked the cashier to please run it again, because there must be some mistake. The purchase was declined a second time, The cashier suggested that I call the company.

Went home, called First Premier and was asked if I had received the agreement in the mail. I replied that I had not. She said that it should have accompanied the card (it did not). She said it explains all the charges related to the card. I asked that she explain it to me since I had her on the phone. She then explained that from the $350.00 Credit Limit, that I had $14.00 Credit Available, that they had applied fees for this and fees for that, etc.

I told the First Premier Customer Service Person that I was sending their card back and explained to the lady, that since I had not charged anything, I did not owe them anything. She said that they would take a settlement and I could pay them $175.00 and be done with it. I said "Lady, I have not even used your card, I will be sending it back, so take my name off your list".

To this day, I am still receiving notices where they have reported me to the Credit Bereau's and recently noticed that they have sold the account to a collection agency and they have added some more charges to the $350.00 and now they say I owe them somewhere in the neighborhood of $800+.

If anyone knows how to get them off my back, please reply. If anyone else reads this before dealing with First Premier - Don't Do It!!!!

They have helped me

AUTHOR: Isisrose - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, October 18, 2008

I confirm that the fees initially come up to $179, that is what mine had come to. I paid that in full and have been paying my balance in full each month since. They do report to all 3 credit beureaus and I have been watching my almost non-existent credit build up and I actually have a decent credit score now.

I don't mind that I had to pay those fees to start out with as they were taking a risk with me. After all I didn't really have a credit history that showed that I would pay. In this day and age credit is important and having bad credit or not having credit can keep you from many things like apartments or even jobs. Is $179 worth building up credit, in my humble opinion yes. Is fair for them to charge these fees, again yes as this is to off set risks that they are initially taking.

Pay on time and your credit limit will increase and maybe down the road you can also get cards for people with good credit and not have to use a card like this. But if you work with them and do it right they can help.

Oh and I checked out many of the other cards out there and found their fees much higher than this one, so it isn't bad.

Unfortunately this is a legitimate debt

It's legal! The contract called the terms and agreement say you only get a pitifully small amount of available credit to spend. This card is not even good for rebuilding credit of people who've filed bankrupcy in the past. They have been called the worst credit card in the world by some consumer advocate groups. Your moneys gone, and you owe them more, try and negotiate to pay them off the longer you wait the more you owe unless you can live with bad credit for the next 8 years.

Thanx gawd for the Internet!

AUTHOR: Walford - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, September 02, 2008

I was checking my spam folder and saw the offer from First Premiere to apply for a credit card and get instant approval for $250 in credit. I figured it would be a good little emergency fund, so I applied.

The card has yet to arrive in the mail and I got an e-mail saying that there would be a minimum of $25 payment due! Let me get this straight: I haven't even activated the card and I already owe $25? So, I called them. They don't make it easy to call either, especially if you don't have a card number. So I kept banging the 0 until it said you can enter a SSN instead.

To make a long story short, I was told that I must pay off $179 to get $250 credit.

I loled.

"Umm...no. Cancel my account." She offered to reduce the charge to $60. I said that I'm not willing to pay $25.

I don't understand why certain companies insist upon preying upon people who are already of limited means already, like these rip-offs that charge you to work from home or find you a job. Why don't you scammers go after rich people instead?

And you know why companies like First Premiere specialize upon ripping off the poor? Because they are hoping that they are stupid and can't afford lawyers, that's why!

They helped my credit

AUTHOR: Samu - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 05, 2008

I don't know what the people complaining are talking about, I recieved my Premier Credit card just four months ago, I had been offered before but actually got declined because my credit was that poor, I've been paying off a few of my closed debts, and got offered the card, it comes loaded with 179 dollars in fees, on a 250 dollar limit for me, I paid off the fees and now have the active card with the 250 dollar balance.

They reported my credit the same month I activated, and have been reporting to my credit score each month accurately, showing positive on my credit score now. (one of the few things) The APR is not outrageous so it's pretty cool, 9.9% is pretty dang good considering I have no credit history and bad loans and one closed credit card account lingering on my history. (Applied Card- is a ripoff secured card with 25.99% APR - and that's if you're NOT deliquent)

So i'm really excited to be working with them now, Happy to get myself back on track, there's not even a fee to close your acct with them once you have your credit back on track. I've never caught a hidden fee, or anything, and actually was surprised to learn that when you hit your credit limit, they don't put your pending debits on hold for so long that you get hit with a million "surprise" purchases you hadn't taken into acct and charge you a million over limit fees.. mine cuts me off at 249.00 every time I get close to my limit. So easy to deal with. Recurring payments also take away the hassle of dealing with the 7 - 11 dollar fees associated with one time payments.

$299 fee? $800 balance?

AUTHOR: Jamie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, January 04, 2007

As an employee of Premier Bankcard I would like to say that there in not nor has there ever been a $299 fee. Fees assesed total $179. These fees are placed to out weigh the risk. The risk being many of you either have very poor or very little credit. Now imagine you are going to borrow money to a friend who you know has outstanding debts to other friends of yours (that they have not paid) Now are you going to borrow that friend money with out a second thought. If you use this card correctly it helps your credit tremendously. As far as the comment from Mary Dallas tx, your bill would not be $800 on a $350 credit limit. If you have never used the card your balance would have been on or about $179 of course with any credit card there would be late fees assesed when montly payments are missed. A late fee will not bill more than 3 consecutive months at that time the card would be frozen so your monthy participation fee and or any annual fee occured would not have billed due to the frozen status. If you never made payment the accout would have charged off and gone to an outside collection agency with in about 6 months or so. Now please explain what in the world you people are talking about. I have read so many of these "rip off reports" and I just can't belive how extremely fabricated these comments are as an employee in the collections department I can honestly say that There is no way any of you read through the fee's listed on the application if anyone doesn't think they are listed go to www.firstpremierbankcard.com and look at the fees they are in big black bold letters. I have filed bankruptcy in the past so I am not only an employee but first a customer.

First Premier's offer is asenine

AUTHOR: Preston - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, May 10, 2003

First premier card is one of the most asenine offers you can receive in the mail. It is not worth it. The total fees that arise out of applying for the card come out to be around $250. Would you want to pay $250 to borrow $5 for a month?

There are plenty of better ways to rebuild credit. Shop around. There are several companies that have better deals and are much more reputable than the scam of an offer that first premier is.

And make sure you READ THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS BEFORE YOU APPLY AND DO NOT TRANSFER ANY BALANCES ON THE APPLICATION AS YOU DO NOT KNOW YOUR CREDIT LINE! If you transfer more than your credit line it will automatically put you in default APR, usually around 25-30% which is ridiculous.

Contract Received After Card Received/Activated

AUTHOR: Mary - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, May 09, 2003

All I know John, is that I want this company out of my life.

The information I received stated that I pay $49.00 and the annual fee would be charged to the card.

There was a Service Fee of $299 or thereabouts, Annual Fee, and some more ridiculous charges that left me a balance of $14.00 available.

I don't want anything from them other than for them to leave me along - and I don't have anything good to say about FIRST PREMIER.

Be Sure You Read and Understand the Terms and Agreement

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 07, 2003

I don't know the entire story of what happened or what card she applied for, but occasionally due to a misunderstanding by one or more parties miscommunication or errors occur.

I work for a third party call center, that recently started taking applications for First Primier Bank for their new MasterCard for rebuilding credit. It has a low rate of 9.9% Fixed.

When I take an appliecation over the phone I am required to disclose all fees and terms of the agreement. It is up to the consumer to pay attention to the terms.

The card I take applications for has $29 Account one time set up fee, one time program fee of $95, an annual fee of $48, and a partcipation fee of $72 which is billed as $6.00 per month. Then if you request an additional card for an authorized user it has an annual fee of $20 which is added to the primary account.

The fees are not required upfront you can just pay the minimum monthly payment of $20 or 3% of the balance, however the intial fees do reduce your available credit until they are paid off, which amount to $178, $198 if you get the additional card.

The credit range is 250-1000 dollars. So if you only qualify for $250 limit your available limit will be $72, $52 if you get the additional card until the fees are paid. Information I received when I was trained is you can cancel within 30 days if you have not made a purchase on the card, and the fees will be refunded. The card I am taking applications for there is no processing fee for the application but the fees I listed above will be charged once the application is approved and the card issued.
