Sold me Eco Bamboo solid flooring, Roberts moisture barrier and Roberts adhesive to install on my concrete flooring. The total cost was over $6000.00 dollars.

I had all products installed according to the directions on the products. My flooring is now all cupped and has to be removed.

Floor and Decor was notified numerouse times of my problem with no response except it must have been installed improperly. Finally Floor and Decor told me to get a liscensed/certified inspector which they gave me the name of one.

I had the floor inspected which in conclusion stated the moisture barrier did not perform as intended which in turn ruined my floor. Sent the report to Floor and Decor. There response was must have been installed imporperly and basically tuff luck you just lost $6000.00. And now advise me I should have had a moisture test before installing (thanks for telling me after I spent the money)

Now I will have to fight them in court ( Don't buy there products)

Problem may be systemic with F&D

AUTHOR: bowserb - (United States of America)

I just came across this complaint and it makes me wonder.  Yesterday spent $3,000 at F&D for hardwood, trim and glue plus stain for the transitions and quarter round.  My contractor picked up today, and they shorted the stain--said I picked it up yesterday, which I did not, so I had to drive to the store.  Then the contractor started unloading the truck and found, out of 22 total boxes, three boxes of a different size wood (3" vs 5") and four boxes of a different wood (natural walnut vs black walnut).  Pretty sloppy.

Carelessness can permeate an organization.  Maybe it has with F&D.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

misdirected anger

I've worked for Floor and Decor as a product specialist and before that was a department manager in the flooring section of an international box store chain.  I've seen complaints like this and dealt with quite a few customers angry over similar issues.  Floor and Decor is, by and large a great company.  The problem with this complaint is that it is not Floor and Decors fault.  The company sold the consumer the proper materials, including a moisture barrier which some people in the industry will not even mention or stress that it's "not important", which is completely false.

As the report from the inspector stated "the moisture barrier did not perform as intended which in turn ruined [the] floor."  Roberts products are of good quality and if the moisture barrier failed it was in all likely hood because it was not installed properly.  If the moisture barrier did not perform as it should have, why would the retailer be sued?  There is nothing that Floor and Decor or any other retailer (no matter how large) can do, unless they accept liability for something they are not responsible for.  It's very unfortunate but that is the way it works.  Pursuing a claim with the manufacturer of the moisture barrier or going after the installer would be the best recourse.  In my 4 years dealing with these product manufacturers and installation companies however I will tell you that this case is typical.  Roberts will make it hard on the consumer and insist one of it's inspectors come out, which will probably state (and rightly so) that the failure was due to improper installation.
How is it that no moisture test was performed?  Who installed the flooring?  Any self respecting installer would have tested the slab for moisture content.  Most people hire the lowest bidder and end up with some day laborer or fly-by-night company that knows little or nothing about how to properly install hardwood.  If the floor was installed by the homeowner then forget winning any claims.  Really no matter what the scenario it is up to you the consumer to be informed.  It's a hard pill to swallow but thats the reality.  Theres a legal term "Ignorantia juris non excusat" Latin for "ignorance of the law does not excuse."  Saying "I didn't know I was supposed to do a moisture test" is not a viable argument.

I feel for consumers in this position but the fact of the matter is that it is not the fault of Floor and Decor.  Roberts may be to blame but it's unlikely.  The installer is almost always to blame but proving it is next to impossible.  Knowledge is power, testing for moisture content in the sub-floor would have probably prevented the entire problem.  The test not being done is ultimately the fault of the homeowner, as they are responsible for informing themselves and insisting that a job be done right.
