I applied for a dental plan with Florida Combined Life Insurance in March of 2013. My card was charged for the entire years worth of premiums on March 18th. The policy's effective date was to be April 15th. I did not receive my insurance card by the 15th so I called customer service. I was on the phone call (off and on hold) for at least 45 minutes. They finally told me it was still in process and I would received my cards soon. A couple of weeks later I called again and got the same answer (after being on the phone at least 45 minutes). I just called again today, May 14th, almost two months later. Apparently the application was never entered, it must have been sitting on some pile this whole time. Customer service offered to put it in the system and my coverage would already be in effect (as of April 15th). Which means my coverage would expire April 15th of next year; and yet I wasn't covered until now. So I paid for a year, but only received coverage for 11 months. I explained how this was unfair and the girl agreed and put me on hold to speak to a supervisor. They finally agreed to change the effective date to the next available. I had also been referred to a specific dentist in my area, so I asked the girl if this dentist was available under my plan. She had to transfer me to another department to check. They said I needed to upgrade to the plus plan to be able to use that dentist. I told her to go ahead and upgrade. Well, apparently the department that can check if I need to upgrade can't actually upgrade me. I had to speak to someone else. After I was transferred again, I was told that my information was not in the system and I couldn't be upgraded. So I asked to speak with the first girl in customer service. She was able to start the upgrade process. This is well into hour 2 on the phone. I had to fax letters requesting this and that. At the end she says I can't charge the upgrade to my credit card. Only the initial payment can be made on a credit card; now I'd have to write a check or money order and overnight it to them! You can trust me when I say it was much more frustrating than I can explain. I finally gave up and asked them to cancel the plan and refund my credit card. As with every other request, I was put on hold. They finally agreed to cancel the application and refund my card. I had to fax them another letter requesting the cancellation and the refund will take 7-10 business days (not counting on it though). There's a lot more to it than this. It seemed like every question had to be reviewed as I sat on hold. I was on the phone for a total of 2 hours 7 minutes and 58 seconds; and I got nowhere! The absolute worst experience I've ever had with any company in my entire life.

This is an update to the review I posted above:

It is now June 19th and I received a bill for an upgrade to the plan! I am on the phone with them now (for 32 minutes so far); I am being transferred for the second time. They said that we never cancelled the plan and that I am not entitled to a refund! I am waiting to speak with a supervisor now who I'm sure will be no help. Unbelievable! I don't know what to do now. What a horrible company!

In addition to the update I posted above:

Just got off the phone with these idiots. They can't help me today. They are going to do some research and call me back in a couple of days! WHAT A JOKE! WARNING! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! THIS IS THE COMPANY THAT FLORIDA BLUE (BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD OF FLORIDA) USES FOR THEIR DENTAL PLANS!
