Frank mentier is the worst trainer I have had in my life (and I have had about a dozen so far). I meet him original because of a social app called grindr, so my source for finding him was not the most credible I will admit. However to get down to it, he gave me a phone call told me more about his training methods and then proceeded to tell me about his normal rate of $120 an hour, however the first session was only $50. I booked the first session and it lasted about 40 minutes instead of an hour, but for $50 I thought that was fine. Then next time I talked to him, I agreed to buy 4 sessions for $200, this I was very happy with and I thought it was fair. So 4 sessions fly by, he had to reschedule about one in 3 sessions, which was fine with me at the rate I was paying, the workouts were super easy and pretty basic but for $50 I was 100% cool with it.

So why one star you say, well here lies the problem, we were almost out of sessions and it was the end of the month so he said he "needed rent" so I agreed to buy larger package and he threw in some free sessions which further reduced my price far below $50.... I was happy, but then one week of cancelations went by from him, he told me he hurt his leg, then another week of cancellations (again hurt leg) during this whole time he never realized we were Facebook friends and he was posting pictures from events, dinners, you know Fun stuff! So after two weeks his leg was "better" then we scheduled an appointment for a Tuesday at 3pm, well that same day I thought I will go to the gym and do some cardio, frank sees me there and texts me afterwards "sessions cancelled" I thought he was joking, ......nope he was not, he was canceling the session (which charged me a session) he said "I knew I was not allowed to workout without him before our sessions" , so we had a talk, he explained himself and I agreed not to do weight training without him (only cardio was allowed before sessions) so a week goes by and guess what else, two more cancellations from frank mentier, but he promise Friday we would workout at 5pm, and at 2pm I was at the gym only doing cardio and frank sees me while he was training one of his clients at that gym, and guess what....Yep he cancels again.

So this keeps going on and on, actually in one week from frank I received 100 text messages explaining why he could not train me, and how it "hurt his feelings" when I did not train the way he asked me to (which was basically only with him, despite the fact he always cancelled on me) so after 3 months I used up sessions which should have only taken about two weeks to use, he literally cancelled 75% of all sessions, with delays of weeks at a time.

I was also fearful of losing my sessions with him, as I paid cash and he told me in casual conversation after paying, that he had cancelled another clients sessions who bought a large package after that client asked him what underwear he wore (which I thought was odd) . He also behaved inappropriately during our sessions, besides always being at least 5 minutes late, or canceling because he could not find parking (he later told me he lived down the street from me just two blocks) he also did things like slap me on my a*s, or would start undressing in front of me because he was hot, either of these things are fine maybe from a straight guy, but from an openly gay trainer with painted fingernails and visible makeup on  it makes you feel uncomfortable. I will say, he seems like a nice person, but as you get to know him , it's 100% LA fake. After my sessions we had a talk, and I told him why I was un happy, during this conversation via text he called me snarky and told me I could not afford his normal $120 rate, so in essence he was calling me poor, however after about 20 text messages from him in an hour we resolved the issues and agreed to meet and talk about renewing, we did meet, and he was as always late, I was planning to ask for a discount below $50 an hour, and to pay via credit card so I could dispute it if he went for weeks without giving me sessions again.

We talked and he wanted to charge me $80 an hour, I thought he was crazy (I actually thought he was crazy when he sent me 100 text messages in a week!) anyway, I did not renew with him, however I did start taking his class that is free for members at the gym I go to, as well as lots of other classes, after about 3 months of taking his and everyone's classes (up to 3 classes a day!) I lost 30 pounds, fast forward several text messages and 3 months, and he is basically angry I was taking the class the gym pays him to teach instead of renewing sessions with him, and literally threatened to kick me out of the gym if I took his class again. Long story short, I now know the hard way you get what you pay for, although frank mentier only charged me $50 or less an hour for a house call, he rarely showed up, some times never even cancels, he just no shows, and if you do not renew with him he is very vindictive.
