DO NOT trust her to pay for services without a written agreement, and do not be flexible if she calls to hire you at the last minute, begging for help in an emergency; it's a ploy to renig on payment. 

Freda Otto, wife of Doug Otto, phoned and contracted me for work at an event she was planning for the City of Long Beach, CA. She contacted me in a last-minute panic, with too little time to draw up a contract and meet for signatures. I prepared and arrived for her event to learn she was not in attendance; she left town. 

Mrs. Otto left no one in charge and the event was chaos, leaving both volunteers and contracted service providers trying to figure out how to pull the event off smoothly in Mrs. Otto's absence.

We did pull it off, then she refused to pay, never returning or acknowledging messages or notices.
