Freedom Homes aka Oakwood Homes ripoff consumer fraud Radcliff Kentucky

In 1999, my husband and I went looking for a Modular home. We found one reasonably priced at Freedom homes. The sales rep quoted a price of $56,900.00 for the home which included: all major appliances, air conditioning, set up and delivery.


When we closed the deal, we were astounded to find out that the complete cost of our home was almost $80,000.00!! This did not include the fencing, garage or land. We were charged for skirting, (which we found out later was not acceptable to our land restrictions)air conditioning, and all the major appliances.

Also, our free standing firepalce had oak on one side and a white mantle on the other. We requested to have oak on both sides. We were charged for the upgrade, but did not recieve our old white mantle.

These extra charges were never disclosed. The Finance company did come out and approve a permanant block foundation, to comply with the land restrictions. Our rate was to be at a fixed rate for 30 years. It was a step rate. It is now fixed at the higher rate. The sales rep never disclosed that it was due to our credit rating. On several occasions we were advised that it was a fixed rate for 30 years!!

The land closing was done without us in the room, the Attorney at closing advised us that we could refinacne our home before the first payment was made. We were made to think that there was nothing we could do since the land closing was done. Unfortunately, we signed this contract.

We tried to get out of this after all these fraudulant things started happening, but to no avail we are still in our home and making outrageous house payments, on time I might add.

The Attorney General has done nothing to help us. We have gone to 3 Attorney's and all have stated we have a fraud case, but will not pursue this. We need at least $2,000.00 up front. We have paid enough for this house already!!

I have found out that the General Manager and our sales rep were fired dor fraudulent dealings, this came from the NEW General Manager.

I would strongly suggest to anyone looking for a modular home in the Hardin County area, DO NOT set one foot on Freedom Homes' property!!!!
