Freedom Resource contacted me in November 0f 2002, on a Saturday morning, and I was most annoyed that a telemarketer was calling. They promised an interest free, no annual fee, credit card with all sorts of bonus offers like, free grocery coupons, gas refund, etc. I had a weak a moment and thought what the heck, I'll try it.
As their representative went over the information, I originally thought it would only cost $21.95 to sign up. When they began to tape the conversation and the representative told me it would be $221.95, I immediately questioned her on this. Specifically asking if the money would only be taken out of my bank account once I signed and returned the membership documentation that they were supposed to send me. The representative answered "yes", and we moved on. I never received any sort of documentation to this day, and literally, I never gave them permission to take the money out of my account.
When my bank statement arrived in December, I was very surprised that $221.95 had been taken out of my account, and because of this, I was overdrawn, incurring fees from the bank, and affecting my other checks.
Immediately, I called the phone number listed on my bank statement, and spoke to the representative. She played back my conversation (so in December at least they did have my original conversation recorded) and I pointed out to her that I never truley gave my approval. She told me that they would send me a refund request.
Well, about two weeks later, the refund request arrived, I filled it out immediately, and returned it to them. I have yet to receive any reply (this was the middle of January). I also sent a letter detailing the whole situation, and obviously no one there cares about it.
I just tried calling the phone number again last Friday for an entire hour and a message kept coming across that all circuits are busy, please try again later - for an entire hour!
That is when I finally got on the computer, and found out they were a fraud. Boy was I ever stupid.
Anyway, hope this helps me get my money back, and anyone else out there who is getting scammed by the same company.

I just received my bank statement and lo and behold, 1Rate.com, a company I had no knowledge of had taken $49.95 out of my bank account for a long distance service that I had not signed up for. According to the statement, I authorized this payment, which I did not.
This just adds insult to injury. I am going to my bank tomorrow to close my account and open a new one. I suggest anyone having trouble do the same thing.
