Beware of CERTIFIED USED VEHICLE SCEAMES!!!

I purchased a 97 Toyota CAmry from Fremont Toyota in the summer of 99. Within 4 days my CERTIFIED USED VEHICLE was dead. I lost all power and my battery was dead.

After a couple hours of my new car being in the shop, I was told I could come pick up my car. They said a fuse burnt out.

When my car would die, all of these things would take place..

lost power to all windows, power locks, and over drive.
All my gauges went out, as well as my lighter.
My airbag warning light would come on, as well as servic engine soon.
And finally, my battery would die.

In a period of 2+ years this very same FUSE blew at least 8 times. Most of the time i would be getting in my car to go to work and find it dead. Once it died while i was at a stop light. The final straw, was when i was doing 70 on a upgrade in the middle lane of a 3 way freeway - DEAD STOP - I thank God im alive.

The service department was never any help. They insisted that it was a simple fuse, and then some relay switch. I tried for SEVERSL months to get them to find the source of the FUSE and RELAY SWITCH going out.

There response everytime was that i would need to pay for the 8 hours of diagnostics needed to my electrical system, and IF it was covered under my warrenty when they found the problem, I would be reimbersed.

I bought the vehicle in Fremont, and lived in Auburn - 126 miles away. However no other Toyota dealership would service my car. The Service manager at Auburn Toyota actually said that he would not "touch this car" and told me to tow it to Fremont Toyota.

I was able to obtain vehicle records from Auburn Toyota that proved the Camry had the EXACT SAME PROBLEM before Fremont Toyota sold it to me as a CERTIFIED USED VEHICLE - Fraud!

Fremont Toyota still refused to help even when shown the paperwork and threatend with legal action. Basically I was told to trade it in and get a new car.

With my car dead at the shop and 126 miles from home and my job, I had no other choice.

To top it off, The 2000 Silverado i purchased from Fremont Toyota had no oil in the engine - Found this out after i got home. All Fremont Toyota could say about this was, you should have checked the fluids before you bought the truck.

I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH TOYOTA AGAIN.

To give you one more example of how much TOyota cares about their customers... THEY RESOLD MY OLD CAMRY AT AUCTION - WITH OUT IT BEING FIXED!

I hope that no one dies when the car comes to a DEAD STOP in the middle of the freeway :(

Learn from my mistake, stay away from Fremont Toyota.

And for Auburn Toyota,

My Camry was towed .09 of a mile to their dealership, by a company the service guy told me to use. They billed my warrenty company the max amount allowed for a tow - $50.00. I called the same tow company two weeks later, and asked them how much it would cost to have my vehicle towed from the same place to the dealership, and they quoted me $20.00.

I now take all my business to Cheverolet dealerships and friends.

Katherine, thank you for sharing your story with us. Are you aware that your vehicle is among those with the potential sludge in the engine problem? If you had any repairs due to oil gelation, you need to contact the customer service number at Toyota and ask for reimbursement. Do a google.com search for the information under "Toyota sludge."

It is scary to think that your vehicle is being resold "as is." This is also what is happening with the recycled sludgemobiles at Toyota. Toyota Financial Services actually posted an "Engine Sludge Policy" on its web site but it has since been removed. Apparently, it was not meant for public viewing because less than two days after the Toyota Owners Network posted it on-line, it was removed from the TFS site.

This policy stated what the arbitration rules would be if the sludge was found in the vehicles at auction. This was perhaps one of the first indications that Toyota KNEW about the problem before any public information became available.

Owners need to file FORMAL complaints to the local, state, and federal consumer agencies to report such occurrences as yours. Too much is being hidden from the public. Who gets hurt in all this? The consumers who purchase these unfit vehicles!

Recently, I have been hearing horror stories from new purchasers of previously-owned Toyota CERTIFIED vehicles. Coincidentally, my sister-in-law purchased a used 2000 Camry privately. The V6 engine vehicles bear watching for the build up of engine sludge. Also, the 4-cylinder Camry falls within this group, too. I am appalled when I read that an engine seizes just days after purchase!!

We have been watching these lovely Toyota commercials which indicate how GREAT a used Toyota can be. Is this hype, or worse, misleading advertisement? Why are so many low mileage Toyotas sludging up? Why are so many having pulling problems with premature tire wear? Why is the power steering and transmission troublesome on so many Siennas? The owners would like to know the answers to these questions.

Don't forget to notify the NHTSA, FTC, and CAS about your major automotive failures. Without formal documentation, Toyota (and any other automaker) can harp on the numbers of formal complaints and erroneously lead others to believe that this is the incidence rate for the noted failures. You must do your part to document.

Katherine, The Great Thorn has to respond your your Rip Off Report. I am not personaly able to say I feel your pain that this toyota dealer has caused you. But what I am able to do is provide you a clear cut way to upset this dealer's apple cart.

Katherine keep this in mine. Car dealers in the past have always been able to keep thier scams and unhappy car buyers under the big rug. Not anymore.

The Rip Off Report has a Very BIG following. Like CEOs at Ford, GM, Toyota and many other car makers big shots. If any big shot CEO at any car make does not know of the Rip Off Report, They soon will. I, The Great Thorn will see to it.

The days of dirty car deals being thrown under the big rug are now over. Please take note that your Rip Off Report will NEVER be deleted. This is a way for you to always be a thorn in their butt.

Now, here is what I would do if I were you.
