Friend Of The Court (aka) Lansing MISDU put lien on joint checking account and savings account LANSING Michigan

State of Michigan put liens on my joint checking and savings account because my husband was "past due" on his support. Yes he has arrears and is paying them according to a court order. The child in question is over 18 and he no longer pays support for this child. The payments he makes is on "arrears" only.

He has not missed any payments since this order was entered however, the State in their zeal to collect "past due" (read arrears)support put a lien on our accounts. After we made contact with them we were told "it was the new law and there is nothing that we can do about" and even suggested that if we didn't like it we could contact our Senator. They refused to listen to anything my husband told them regarding the fact that he was sending payments as directed by the court, or that most of the money in the savings account was mine and that we could prove it.

Not to mention some of the monies that they took were my direct deposits from the Friend of the Court (read MISDU)to support my child. He was told that once monies go into a joint account they become fair game because he had accesses to them. The original amount that they placed a lien on was just over $5,000.00. We were able to eventually get them to give half of that amount back because it was a joint account and I had an interest in them as well.So not only did they take money that I could prove was not my husbands but they also took my child support money that was paid to me to help support my child!
