On Saturday 12/18/2010 I was shopping at Frys electronics in Fountain Valley to buy a Samsung Camcorder which was on sale at $119.00. There were only 3 items left over in the store, 2 items were returned by the customers and the other as the sale person stated that it is brand new in the box. I have also asked for the return policy if the item is not satisfied then I was also told by the sale person that, the return policy for this item will be 30 days with no penalty and there is no charge for any restocking fee. This camcorder was handed over to me at the cashier where I paid for and it was placed in a bag with another sticker 15% charged will be applied when open box and another sticker said return only acceptable within 15 days of purchased.

When I went home then noticed that, there is 15% charged for the return and not as the sale person said then I called the customer service for returning next day without opening the box. At the returning reception they opened this box then let me know that, the item inside has been used, it is very surprising me. I also requested to open another brand new box to see and to compare because I believe that, the other box will be also the same with placing another return item inside also, Frys refused my request to open another brand new box. However, they claimed that the box has been opened from the bottom while the security seals were not broken on the box, I also requested to see the sale person to match with the information on the day for sale this item. Again I was also refused by Frys employees to let me see the sale person.

However, there was the return item which was placed inside the box already with the stickers placing on the box, it looks like the brand new item never been opened that I believe, therefore if opening the box or not then I will still be charged for 15% restocking fee when returning. At the same day of returning the camcorder to the store, another customer behind me told that, he has also been ripped off by this store before for the same purpose and nothing we can prove or any evidence to sue them.

Because of many returning items on hand so that Frys electronics today never be honored to their customers, they try to resale all the returning items overstock, it against the consumer laws to protect the buyers and customers BUYERS BEWARE WHEN BUYING ANY ITEM STATES WITH 15% RESTOCKING FEE AT FRYS ELECTRONICS, REQUEST SALE PERSON MUST OPEN THE BOX TO SEE INSIDE IS THE BRAND NEW ITEM OR NOT BEFORE LEAVING THE STORE

15% restocking fee is a lie. I beat it.

AUTHOR: stopburningcustomers - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, December 04, 2015

Maybe at the time you purchased it, there was a 15% restocking fee. But in my case, in 2015, they were clearly trying to scam me, from the store manager on down.

Fry's Electronics does not have a 15% restocking fee on cameras. Your receipt is your contract. They return policy is printed on the back. No where does it say, cameras have a 15% restocking fee. Their printed policy in the store doesn't say it. And their website, which shows both the In-Store and Online return policies do not either.

In fact, I think anyone can avoid the 15% restocking fee scam these people attempt to do by coming in with my report printed out. It's a fake restocking fee scam they pull. Doing this earns them enough money that they try to do it on all of their camera and high priced items. And the orders come from the store managers. The store manager in Anaheim was attempting to negotiate with me without showing his face. I took no deals, and they caved in because I knew what I was talking about.

SCAM FRYs Electronics

AUTHOR: LynneD - ()

POSTED: Friday, March 15, 2013

I had very bad  SCAM experience at Frys just recently.  I bought a Ultrabook $1600 plus insurance $300.  By the time I finished paying all other items it was around $2,400.  I needed  a laptop/tablet combined for my work.  I searched the internet and printed what I needed.  Went to Fry's and found a Lenovo twist for $1099 but only had 125 gb.  I wanted one with 500 GB.   I surely liked the screen as it it was perfect for what I needed 12.5" So, a salesman and supervisor name Jon Oca, helped me.  I realized the keyboards were too plasticky so I wanted something better and willing to pay more for it.  So, he brought me to Sony Vaiio Ultrabook which was just released two weeks ago.  There was also another buyer (witness) who also happens to be looking also for the same thing and we both talked and gave me her business card and asked me to let her know what  is my input on the Sony.  I excitedly asked if the Sony Ultrabook is 500 GB.  Salesman said yes infront of the other buyer.  He also said that is I-7 Intel Core  which is the
latest and the greatest with 8GB Memory. I was concerned that it was only 11.5".  He said that is not that much smaller than the Lenovo and that I should not feel the difference.   I asked him a couple of times NOT just once infront of this other buyer if it is 500 GB and said he said yes.

Then, the other buyer said to me "You know they have 15% RESTOCKING FEE".  I got worried and immediately asked him.  Jon Oca the saleman looked at me in the eyes, smiled  and said  "DON'T WORRY.. If you return I will I will NOT charge you the restocking fee... I am the supervisor in the computer dept".

This scammer would have NOT told me the restocking fee if the other buyer didn't tell me.  The salesman then explained why they are now charging 15% restocking fee.  That there were 20 computers that got returned all in one day when there was a convention.  I told the salesman, why should other customers pay the price on these 20 buyers that made the return.  I told him that the 15% restocking fee is  bad and not fair for buyers and all it takes is ONE upset buyer who will tell 20 more buyers, and each of those buyers
will tell 20.  It is worse than the 20 returns they received.  Well, here I am telling the WHOLE WIDE WORLD!!!

Anyway, two days later, as I was surfing and learning the Windows 8 and finally went to the desktop, I found out the Ultrabook is only 250 GB and 50 GB is somehow already used up with all kinds of programs installed by the manufacturer.   I was very upset that this unsuspecting salesman LIED to me.

I am also finding out the screen is too small for what I needed.  Five days after my purchase, I called him up and told him that I would like to return because he lied it is NOT 500GB and the screen is too small.  I REMINDED him that he made a promise he will give me refund and that I had a witness and not give me any problem.  This salesman then flatly DENIED it and said, "Oh, I would not make a promise like that.  We have 15% RESTOCKING FEE  (that's $360 they want to charge me).  You can exchange it with something else in the store if you want"  So, I argued with him on the phone and told him that I had a witness.  Salesman (Jon Oca) still refused.  I was very upset so I ran directly to the store.  Again, he refused and I knew I had no fight against this.  As one of the staff going through the Ultrabook, he noticed that there is tiny dent on the side of the laptop and told me they will not take it back at all.  I told them I was the only user so how that got there I have no idea.  Anyway, they refuse to take it back without charging me the 15% restocking fee even if the dent is not there.   But since the dent is there they will not will not take it back at all.  I immediately contacted the other buyer who was a witness and heard this salesman make the promise.

She said she will NO longer go there and will buy her computer at Best Buy.

Today, I talked to her and she did.  Well, there is another Frys  LOST customer.

I will take a lost on this one and sell it at around $900.  I will lose $700 ;--((.   I really need the bigger screen and 500GB.  I used to love Frys and purchased a nice tv and all my stereos two years ago.  I spent almost $10,000.  Now I hate this store and I would like to warn all the consumers BEWARE of LIAR SALESMAN they have over there.  This place is NO longer what it used to me.  Best Buy used to do the same thing charge 15% restocking fee and obviously a system that did NOT work.  Best Buy NO longer do this as there were less buyers.  Fry's took over Best Buy FAILED SYSTEM.  Please BEWARE BE CAREFUL of DISHONEST salesmen and 15% RESTOCKING FEE at FRYS.

..as difficult for you as it may be..to form a comprehensive sentence.

Then we can debate. For now all I can tell is that the only problem was a restocking fee sticker, and not an actual problem with the camcorder itself. If the only problem was a sticker... why not just peel it off?

Reply to consumer comment about Fry's electronics ripping off 15% restocking fee for an unopend item when return

AUTHOR: Tan Tran - (USA)

POSTED: Saturday, January 08, 2011

I never buy any product which will be charged with a restocking fee when open it if I do not know the product inside will be fine or not or even if they do then I never get them out from the store. God knows what was inside the box when returning to the store when the box never be opened.

As the Fry's sale man told that, there is a freedom to return within 30 days with no restocking fee then I let to have a try but they lie. You are not on the same boat with the people who has been ripped off by this business and as you said, you have never been at Fry's electronics before and you do not have any experience with them yet so I suggest that, you should not post your comment on this web to let the readers confuse. My post is helping to alert the other buyers from being ripping off by Fry's electronics, therefore how many reports have been posted by consumers about Fry's electronics on this web site so far, a good business should not has any complaint from the customers.

I don't understand...

AUTHOR: Ronny g - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, January 06, 2011

..is the ONLY reason you wanted to return it was because you noticed a 15% restocking fee sticker on the box when you got home?..or was there actually a problem with the camcorder?

You state you asked the salesperson for the return policy if you were not "satisfied"..well what about the camcorder did not satisfy you if you never even opened the box and used it?

I have never even been into a Frys so I can't give any opinion based on experience with them..but I do have experience with those who believe "the customer is always right"..that is a myth which is an antiquated advertising slogan. In reality no one is predetermined as right or wrong..each situation is a case by case.

I don't know why you think you are so entitled..but I am not surprised they would not let you start ripping open boxes of new items in the store. If anyone did that they would be arrested or kicked out of the store. The old school way of handling it was the ultimate method..a little party in the back room...then call an ambulance to pick up the injured party.

Frys electronics ripping off 15% restocking fee on the electronic item which never been opened when returning

AUTHOR: Tony Tran - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 05, 2011

On Saturday 12/18/2010 I was shopping at Frys electronics in Fountain Valley to buy a Samsung Camcorder which was on sale at $119.00. There were only 3 items left over in the store, 2 items were returned by the customers and the other as the sale person stated that it is brand new in the box. I have also asked for the return policy if the item is not satisfied then I was also told by the sale person that, the return policy for this item will be 30 days with no penalty and there is no charge for any restocking fee. This camcorder was handed over to me at the cashier where I paid for and it was placed in a bag with the sticker of 15% restocking fee will be applied when open box and another sticker said return only acceptable within 15 days of purchase.

When I went home then noticed that, there is a 15% restocking fee for the return if the box is opened and not as the sale person said then I called the customer service for returning this item next day without opening the box. At the customer services merchandise return section they opened this box then let me know that, the item inside has been used and it is very surprising me then I also requested to open another brand new box to see and to compare because I believe that, another box will be also the same with placing another used item inside, Frys refused my request to open another brand new box. However, they claimed that the box has been opened from the bottom while the seals were not broken on the box, I also requested to see the sale person to match with the information on the day for sale this item. Again I was also refused by Frys employees to let me see the sale person.

However, there was an used item which was placed inside the box already, the box has been relabeled as a brand new item before handed over to me that I believe. Therefore, if the box has been opened or not then I will still be charged for a 15% restocking fee when returning. The question is why Frys employees refused to open another box to find out with the customers request?, at the same day of returning the camcorder to the store, there was another customer behind me told that, he has also been ripped off by this store before for the same purpose and nothing we can prove or any evidence to sue them.

Because of so many returning items on hand so that Frys electronics today never be honored to their customers, they try to resale all returning items overstock by placing the used items in the boxes then relabeling them as brand new items, I have been ripped off for 15% restocking fee while I did not know there was an used item in that box when returning to the store. To whom may be concerned, it against the California consumer laws, do not let them get away, I have also submitted a complaint to the California Consumer about this matter Buyer should beware when purchase any electronic item stated with a 15% restocking fee when shopping at Frys electronics, do not let they trap you in. Ask the sale person open the box to see inside is a brand new item or not before leaving the store
