Two years ago I purchased a top of the line Fry's PC from their store in Tempe, AZ. I purchased the extended warranty (PSP) along with the computer.

12 weeks ago, the computer crashed and needed to be restored. I used the manufacturer's recovery CD's. The recovery would not continue to the end. It would error out before it coud finish.

I took the PC back to the Fry's service department for help. They accepted the computer, and two weeks later I was told to come and pick it up.

I picked up the computer and took it home.. where it crashed 10 minutes later. I once again used the recovery CD's. This time they did load the entire thing, except that now it would not accept microsoft updates. It was stuck on service pack 1. I calle Frys back, and was told to bring it in again. Keep in mind I live 1.5 hours away.

I returned the computer again, and explained the situation to an employee named "Mike". Mike said he would reload it again, and make sure that it would update. Mike called me 3 weeks later, to advise me that the computer was ready. I asked him which set of recovery CD's he used to recover it. He stated that they have a master set of cd's at their shop, and he had used those.

I explained to Mike that he needed to use the manufacturers recovery CD's, since they were the source of the problem. He told me that although there was no signs of damage to the CD's (since they had only been opened after I needed them), they were obviously defective and would need to be replaced. He offered to reorder a new set for the computer and would call me when they were in.

I just received a letter in the mail from Frys stating that they were about to charge me for the loaner they issued me. I called Mike back and asked him if the CD's were in. He said that he had never offered to buy me a set of CD's, and that my computer has been ready for a month now.

The frys service department refuses to replace the defective operating system they sold me with the computer, making it virtually useless. I am going to return the loaner, but I will not accept my computer without a set of functioning recovery CD's. I will continue to fight.

Beware of Frys electronics. They are the most underhanded, dirty scoundrels I have ever dealt with. Use caution!!! because it is truly BUYER BEWARE at FRY'S Electronics.

Those "special" master cd they used which did not let you use updates were in fact boot-legged cd and that tells you that you have a boot-legged version and cant use updates.....

Take them to small claim court, also get in touch with microsoft and tell them what Fry's is doing...
