I purchased furniture online from Furniture World Outlet in Myrtle Beach, I ordered two light tan sofas and a kitchen set. Upon delivery my wife and I noticed that the sofas were much darker than  the pictures online. I called the salesman and he requested pictures of the sofas , which I then sent to him.

He contacted the manufacturer (Ashley Furniture) and was told when the pictures of the furniture were taken they it was done in a studio setting with lighting so they would appear lighter than they actually are. "Now I was born in the morning but it wasn't this morning."

I would agree that furniture could be a shade or two different than the picture; but how does light tan turn into an almost dark brown furniture. I also think studio lighting is done to give the true appearance of an item, not a false presentation, the bottom line is they made the sofas withthe wrong color and refuse to do anything about it, so I'm stuck with furniture that does not go with anything in my living room. I put good hard earned money out for something that isn't even close to the color presented and I am distraught and saddened by the whole situation.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Furniture Shoppers Take Risk on Themselves

AUTHOR: B Smith - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, June 24, 2014

Purchasing furniture from a website, catalog, or anything other than seeing it in person carries a level of risk that the consumer takes on themself.  Upholstered fabrics will have visual variances depending on the lighting of the room they are in and the level of natural light or synthetic light.  Studio photography is done to depict fabrics as naturally as can be shown, but professional lighting is very different than lighting used in most homes.

The bottom line is this:  If a customer chooses to purchase a piece of upholstered furniture from a website, catalog, or other image rather than to see that product in person, then they should expect that product to have subtle variances in color, texture, size, functionality, etc than what the customer saw in the photo image.

Manufacturers such as Ashley have strict standards to limit color variations in the fabrics they sell on upholstered furniture.  They always suggest that customers go to a furniture store and see the furniture in person before making a product selection.

Though Ashley does sell products through website marketers, they prefer to sell and distribute their products through reputable furniture stores who display furniture in decorated showrooms.  Those retail stores provide assistance to customers to help with their purchase decisions, and they provide service after the sale to handle issues that may cause a customer to be unhappy with their purchase.

Customers who decide to purchase online from website e-tailers do so at their own risk.
