Future Fitness Future Fitness Scam Artists??!! West Berlin New Jersey

After having my 1st child I decided that I would look into membership at a well known gym, Future Fitness, to get back in shape. My baby was about a month old so we called to inquire for pricing when we were told we must come in. I told them it would be extremely hard for us to come in as I had a c-section and was still recovering and my husband worked long hours, but never-the-less they said I needed to come in to get pricing (should have seen the red flags here).

My husband and I went in and of coarse the extremely pushy salesman sold us a 1200/year gym membership. I told him no thank you on a number of times; however, he just kept pushing. My husband caved and we signed up for a ONE YEAR contract in which we paid up front for. I assured the salesman that I only wanted to try it for a year and no longer, because I wasn't sure how dedicated I would be. He assured me that I would only be charged for a year and woulsn't be obligated to stay longer than that. Keep in mind we were there with an almost 2 month old and we were told that the meeting would be around 30 minutes and it ended up being 3 hours, so my baby was hungry and cranky. I trusted the sales rep to give me the right information.

However, a year later I call get a letter from Future Fitness (January 20th) stating that they will be charging my credit card for the "monthly dues". Wait a minute! I only signed for a year and paid UPFRONT... what monthly dues? So, I called the accounting office and spoke with Elsie who said my husband must come into the store and sign something between 10-6pm so they can't charge my card. I explained to her that myusband works long hours way past 6 and asked if I could come in, but she said no and that if it wasn't done and I didn't pay they would send me to a credit bureau.

So, my husband left work early and a gentleman named Joe met him and signed papers. I called Elsie that same day (literally a couple minutes after my husband came home requesting a copy of the cancelation form my husband signed as well as a letter stating that my card would no longer be charged and wanted her assurance that my card would not ever be touched again by Future Fitness and after asking 2 or 3 times I felt confident that Future Fitness would not be charging my card. I never received a copy of the form, but a letter saying that they hope they can meet my gym needs at a later time.

However, February's card statement rolls around and there it is.... So, I call back and speak with Joy 3/5 who says it is a 90 day cancellation policy (what am I cancelling - I only signed up for a year???). Joy couldn't answer my questions, so she told me she would need to look into it and get back with me. Two days go by and I dont hear from Joy.

I called back 3/7 and spoke with Elsie who told me it is a 90 day cancellation policy as well. I told her that back in February she assured me that I would not be charged again and she said she wouldn't say that and hung up on me. I called back and spoke with Debbie and explained the situation and she said the same thing and hung up on me. I called back and asked for accounting and was told that I was speking to accounting. She said her name was Debbie amd I explained to her the situation and I was told the same 90 day policy thing and was hung up on again!

I then called another time and Debbie answered the phone and I explained to her that I had been hung up on 2ce now and just want to get things resolved. Debbie insisted on telling me she didn't just speak with me and when I asked for corporate's number she told me she WAS corporate.... what? She just told me she was in accounting and now she is corporate? Hmmm if this doesn't sound like something fishy is going on - I don't know what does?

This matter is still not resolved....
