Raising the bar of bad customer service.

In late 2011, I purchased a 2005 Aston Martin DB9 that had only 40,000 miles and only one previous owner. Before I purchased it, I took it Galpin Ford to get a test on the car to make sure there were no issues and everything was in excellent condition. The test came out perfect and they highly recommend I buy the car.

Since I purchased the car I have had it serviced regularly and on time to make sure everything continued to stay in top condition. I have been extremely loyal to Galpin and never took the car elsewhere. Every year I spent about $5,000 for services and maintenance expenses that they required of me. For the last 3 years, the engine to my knowledge has been in perfect condition.

In December of 2013, I paid about $4,500 to take care of some issues with the car … another maintenance check. The manager then told me that the car would be set for at least a year.

In April 2014 I noticed the car making a ticking noise. I spent $200 on a diagnostic for the car and was told that there was a cylinder misfire, which would cost about $4,500. I told them I was not happy about this (especially considering the statement made the previous December 2013). I felt this was a lot of money that could have been prevented had they done a better check in December.

On my way home, the ticking noise got louder and the car was riding extremely rough. When I had it towed to Galpin the mechanic confirmed that the engine was BLOWN AND DESTROYED. When they contacted Aston Martin to help with this matter 2 weeks later, I was truly insulted when Galpin said the engine would cost $35,000 and they are only willing to give me a $700 credit. In talking further to one of the managers they said they would do their best by waiving an extra $500 for total $1200. Again I feel that this is an insult. Here we are months later and I am tired of getting the runaround every time I try to get an answer.

I only drove the car 12,000 miles and it makes no sense for it to have a little over 50,000 miles total (with constant service and attention) to break down. The car clearly did not meet expectations or its standard lifespan considering how much I paid for both the car and maintaining it.

In Conclusion, they promised that they would work with me. In total I have been working on this for 2 months and Galpin Ford has just been wasting my time and energy.

As for Aston Martin, unfortunately they haven’t responded to my emails so far. Needless to say I am a very disappointed customer and I highly recommend that you never work with these 2 companies.

Oh well since they told you it was good for a year..

Wow...

I think you have an excellent case to sue them for the $35,000.  After all the Mechanic told you after your service in December that you were "set for at least a year".   That one statement should be enough to get any reasonable judge in any court in the land to see it your way and immediatly issue a judgment against them for the full $35,000.

Oh wait...this isn't Fantasyland.

So you have a 9 year old car that you drove about 4000/miles a year but paid about $5000/year in maintenance.   Ummm...I wonder if I am the only one who sees a bit of a problem with that.  Especially when we get to the next part.

But then we get to April where you take it in and they do a $200 diagnosis.  They tell you that there is something wrong and it would cost $4500 to fix.  Then all of the sudden that amount becomes "a lot of money". Really????

Now, even though there is obviously something wrong what do you do?  You continue to drive it.  Then you are somehow shocked when the engine is blown and you need to do a $35,000 replacement..and expect THEM to cover it?

Unless you are not telling the entire story, there is NOTHING in this report that they did anything wrong.  In fact it seems as if the reason you are in this mess is because you all of the sudden became "cheap".

But then again on the serious side, since you apparently have tons of money just lying around, I am sure you could find a lawyer to file that suit.  When you do I hope you post the court information such as the location and docket number so everyone can follow it.
