This all began innocently enough; my wife is going to Europe over the summer to visit her sister. In an effort to assist her in her travels, I purchase the European Map download from Garmin (online) which requires you to register, plug your device (Nuvi 880) into your computer and PURCHASE the download prior to receiving. Once your deivce is connected to the online service, the device is read, checked for necessary software updates and the serial number is registered.
Only after you attempt to initiate the download do you get a failure notice stating "Not Enough Room on Device". You would think that they would send this notice to you prior to purchase, wouldn't you? I mean, they have the information available as they just scanned your device for space and updates.
I immediately contact the customer service line and explain the problem...and ask for a refund of the $99.00 fee they have charged to my card.

They refuse, stating, "I apologize but once a download is 'tied' to a device, we cannot issue a refund".

I have registered a complaint with my bank and will update the results here. Just on principal, I would reccomend that nobody use Garmin. They are apparently resorting to online theft, fraud and deliberate deception in the face of their losses to cell phone navigation systems.

Trouble reading?

AUTHOR: T - (U.S.A.)

So, I guess you didn't read the requirements for the downloadable content.  It is clearly stated that if the content won't fit on your device, an SD or microSD card will be required.  I don't think you're going to be able to sue Garmin over this.  You were not entitled to a refund, all you had to do was get a card to store your purchase.  Is that so difficult?  Or, are you just another hothead d****ebag with entitlement issues?

For proof of this, visit the link below and click "Requirements," then click "Download Requirements."

PS - You fail.

Apparently, you are "legally challenged". Spoken like a true company d****e-bag. Obviously, you work for GARMIN. Well, you are in the process of being sued for consumer fraud, constructive fraud and deceptive marketing. Al of these carry punity damages. Fortunately, you  have a local receiver of legal service in Irvine. Tell it to the judge, Monkey Boy.

Technologically challenged?

Did you assume that a GPS which came with a North American database could magically store detailed maps for the entire world on it's internal memory?    If that were the case, Garmin wouldn't have to sell seperate devices for N.A. and Europe.

Your problem is simple and was stated correctly by the error message you got.  The standard memory on the device is not large enough to contain both North America and European databases.   You either have to delete the N.A. database, or add a memory card to the device.   If you bothered to read the documentation before you bought the Europe update, you would have seen this :

File Information
The file size of this download and space required on device or microSD/SD card is 2.10 GB. If this download does not fit on your device, data may be saved on a 4 GB microSD/SD card (Recycled microSD cards may be used to program map data).

The good news is that the Europe database is still waiting for you on the Garmin site and you can dowload it once you get your memory problem solved.
