GATEWAY CROOKED AND DISHONEST TO THE CORE, RIPOFF SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota

I will tell you as briefly as I can how fraudulent Gateway is. In August of 2004 I purchased a laptop from them via u.s. mail. After they received my check in the mail, they called and said the laptop I ordered was discontinued and would be sending me a different one.

They also told me the laptop case they initially promised wouldnt be included because the laptop they were sending had more speed. I agreed to it I just wanted a computer fast. Well about January of 2005 the cd burner/dvd player stopped working and the hinges fell off so the laptop would not stay open by itself.

I called Gateway and they said this particular model had faulty hinges. They said they had already repaired 500 laptops of this same model for the faulty hinges. I thought well...why didnt you contact me if it was a consumer problem.

I sent the laptop to Texas in a overnight package that Gateway provided. They also paid shipping both ways. That was great I thougt. The trouble began when I couldnt get the status of my laptop for five weeks. After numerous phone calls and no response I contacted the New York attorney general/consumer fraud division. A response from Gateway quickly followed.

They said the cd/dvd player wouldnt work because my computer had something spilled on it and the mother board didnt work. According to Gateway if something is spilled on the motherboard the cd/dvd player won't work.

They also stated the warranty which had approximately five months left did not cover mother boards. I assured them the laptop never had anything spilled on it, nor was it ever dropped or taken out of the house. They repaired the hinges only. Sent the laptop back after about six weeks.

I called Gateway so many times during this fiasco and I cannot stress enough how inefficent and pass-the-buck the phone reps are.

I called them again on about April 8th, 2005 ...looking for my laptop as usual. Turns out the laptop arrived later that day. But I spoke with a customer service supervisor and he stated that this laptop was REFURBISHED and not new like I was told at the time of purchase.

NEVER did anyone at Gateway tell me this was refurbished or I wouldnt have purchased it. Talk about fraudulent! So right now I am working with the attorney generals office here in New York. I have received two phone calls from a guy at the 'executive response team' at Gateway.

He leaves msgs that he is trying to resolve this matter via the attorney generals office. When I return his phone calls they don't know who he is. I recently got another call from him with a different call back number. Again just a voice mail.

This company is beyond fraudulent. They should be sued by the US attorney and put out of business. buyer beware!! IT IS ILLEGAL FOR GATEWAY TO SELL A REFURBISHED COMPUTER AND TELL THE CUSTOMER IT IS NEW AT TIME OF PURCHASE!!! STAY CLEAR OF GATEWAYS THEY ARE JUNK AND IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS YOU WILL GET THE RUNAROUND
