GB Thompson Design ruined the new design of my house! Reviews California

The construction and design company, GB Thompson Design has ruined our new housing extension for my offices.

From looking at their logo design you would think they are a professional company. However, I contacted them in early-May to work on my new graphic design studio extension to my house so I could work out of home in my new business venture. I paid them originally £45k on the extension, which was a little higher than I would have liked, but it seemed a good deal considering the other quotes from other contractors were around £50-£60k for my area.

Considering their branding and logo you would think they are a high end company, but I should have known from the price it wouldn’t match up with their logo and brand image. The initial planning meetings seemed promising with the expert designers taking a raft of notes and asked for samples of the type of décor I was wanting for my new studio, and it wasn’t until I started chasing up the plans they had drawn up for me that things started going downhill.

It took 2 weeks to get the designs from the designers after they said they had been completed and I approved them after several minor revisions. Then the work started and things started becoming nearly untenable - their workmen were impolite, inconsiderate and worked at all hours (including through the night). Their work was also very shoddy.

I also don’t think their work was up to code either, and the insulation they installed was completely inadequate despite being told that it was the maximum they could install (I later checked and it was the minimum that they had installed – no doubt to save costs).

My new studio is now a cold, damp place to go, and the radiators they installed to heat the space were tiny and inadequate for the new space and weren’t plumbed in properly – they continually leak onto my new wood grain flooring.

Their interior design “experts” didn’t seem to care either, doing the bare minimum to justify their high fees and expensive bills! Their designs were terrible too, with little to no customisation on their part. Their design brief was extensively put together with samples, colours and the like, but I don’t think they can read! I wanted lime green and white and It might aswell have been blue. It wasn’t until I got back from holiday to find the work done and the decorating complete that I realised their horrible mistake!

Their vans were also battered looking, with licenses plates missing and their tires were bald!

Their CEO, Daniel McGrew, also declined to take my calls after their “workmen” had finished and the few sales reps weren’t much help either. They keep passing me around the office without much resolution or even an apology. Their chief point of contact, Scott Northin also has a terrible phone manner – I don’t know how he got the job in all honesty.

Overall, the experience has been disheartening, and a complete waste of money and time. I am now going to have to find another interior design agency to complete the work the GB Thompson Design has screwed up so much.
